More adventures in baking for others! Another Zumba instructor (who is also a band instructor at a nearby school) is a FB friend; when he found out I played flute long ago, he offered to loan me an old flute he had lying around, and a get-started book, so I could reawaken the joy of making music.

I offered to bake him goodies; "You're offering me CARBS!", he joked. I told him they were healthy carbs. He's been busy doing other things, & I forgot the whole thing for a while. A couple days ago he messaged me, asking if I could come by the school where he works & pick up the flute & book.

I offered to bring goodies since I have plenty of time to bake; he suggested if I wanted to bake enough for a couple dozen people (staff), that the goodies would be welcome. Tuesday morning I baked two kinds of healthy cookies (banana oatmeal chocolate chip, and cocolattas (unsweetened coconut & mini chocolate chips, whole wheat pastry flour, etc.), packed a big container of them (complete with recipes & nutritional info) and delivered them to the office at his school.

He met me there, gave me a hug & a flute, and introduced me to others in the office. We chatted a bit, he showed me the bent-neck flute, the book & cd; it was really cool!

I was excited to try the flute when I got home, bummed when I had a hard time with making a decent sound out of it (scaring the cat), then happy when I made a decent sound or two out of it. I'm looking forward to practicing, getting familiar with it, then reminding my brain how to read music, hee hee!

On the down side, I haven't been sleeping so well, I get exhausted easily, and I ate toooo many of the extra healthy cookies. My weight is a little up again, but I'm not going to panic.

I did manage to go to Zumba with the fabulous (& famous)instructor Gina yesterday. I talked to her before class, and she kept an eagle eye on me, shaking her head at me when I tried a move that could hurt my knee, miming marching in place for me to do instead. Loved it!

This morning I bought a new knee brace that will make it easier to exercise with a little less danger of doing more damage. I feel so much better when I dance! or do weight training!

Saw my physical therapist yesterday; we discussed knee replacement recovery time. She gave me good solid advice on how to stay strong, fit, and healthy to both put off such a surgery as long as possible and to be able to rehab from it as quickly and painlessly as possible.

My stomach is growling, time to heat up the last of my split pea soup I made a few days ago. :o)

I wish you lived closer so I could snag healthy cookies. :) Good luck with the knee. Hopefully you can put off the surgery as long as you can. I know a few farmers that have had to have it done and I feel for you.

So happy you are fluting again - did I ever mention I used to play professionally? I have a master's degree in music performance in my history and played oboe in local orchestras before I went back to graduate school the second time.
