VondeLynn's Journal, 12 November 2008

Well, I have done well so far. My husband and I went out for lunch at a great Mexican place in town. I had it in my head not to eat any chips & salsa, but I got there first and they sat it right down in front of me. I am proud that I only indulged in 5 (yes 5!) chips, only because I adore their fresh salsa! I ordered a favorite of mine, a Chicken Fajita Salad (sans shell), and there were some refried beans on it. At least they are a complex carb and not the easy junk I ate with my salsa.

I was a little cotton mouthed this AM, so I am upping my water intake. I have taken my supplements though and not forgotten, that is a good start. I am taking a liquid cap multivitamin, potassium, and am still looking for that one supplement that it mentioned in Atkins that suppresses carb cravings, L-glutamine (sp?). Any leads on that would be excellent!

I am going, and pumped, and will promise myself to do at least 30 minutes of yoga tonight after the kiddo goes to bed. We all need a little time for ourselves!

I have been meeting some new people here, everyone seems so nice and helpful, and I look forward to meeting more!

Have a splendid rest of the day!!!

Laura

Sounds like you're doing well. I avoid the Mexican food myself - especially during Induction. Its just too hard for me. You did well, though!! I have never taken the L-glutamine - but my recommendation is to look at a food coop or organic market. They usually have a herboligist on staff who can get it in if they don't have it. Either that or order it off the internet.

LOL I figured out jus tthis week that salsa has like 10 calrories a serving!! So eat it with other thing sor say ONE serving of chips (5-7 depending on brand) and it's actually healthy! :) Myabe not terible atkins-friendly, though.

I used to dread Mexican places when I first started Atkins. Now I know what to order. I either get the chicken fajitas or the pollo ala crema with side salad instead of the rice and beans, hold the tortillas. If it doesn't come with guacamole I order it on the side. I eat the meat with a fork along with my salad. After induction I do have some beans (I order whole beans) and I eat 1/4-1/2 cup of them and take the rest home. They do have a lot of fiber and while they might make you stall they won't make you gain. :)

Oh and I make my own salad dressing with sour cream and fresh salsa. Carnitas are good too.
