ericam16's Journal, 27 June 2013

Yesterday was horrible, for food anyways. I feel like I have to type it all down, like I'm really being honest with myself. I always start the day off well....lunch I had a chili cheese dog, order of onion rings, root beer, some fries...then I snacked on chips and kettle corn....then on the way to school I wasn't even hungry, but I felt like I had to eat so I stopped at Mcdonald's and got a big mac and smoothie...came home ate some more chips. And felt like you know what.
This was actually a good day for binges. Usually I eat double that...so sick I know.
Today I just want to get myself back on track. Every week its like this week will be different. What makes it different though? I guess my attitude, because I am so done with this rollercoaster ride when it comes to my weight.

Sometimes you just need to pick up something quick...but honey you need to make better choices. Sounds like you were at DQ for the chili cheese dog...chili alone would have been better...throw back the dog. No deep fried foods, the fries and onion rings have to go...you will clog your arteries. The root beer was all empty calories that you did not need to have...drink water instead. Then at McDonalds...a new wrap or a grilled chicken sandwich would have been better. The smoothie is ok for a treat...but did you really need that? Again water would have filled you without the calories. You need to not have chips in the house! The sodium that you ingested yesterday was atrocious! I am really aware of that because I am working on cutting back. The sodium will make you retain water which is weight. I don't want to upset you...but educate yourself on your food choices. Read labels and put everything in your food journal. If you are serious about wanting to lose...you have to put in the time. If you type this all into your journal you would be amazed at the amount of calories you are consuming.

Take each day as it comes. You can do it for one day, I know you can. Pick that day, and do it. Put good foods in your fridge, get rid of the bad stuff or have someone hide it so you can't find it. And don't stop to get food -- take what you need with you when you're out; it takes some work, but it gets more 'natural' with time. They say it takes 30 days to make something a habit; keep in mind that you're not just building new habits, but breaking old ones. It's the old ones that are dangerous, because no matter how long you're away from them, it's easy for them to take hold again. This is a lifestyle change, so do it step-by-step -- don't overwhelm yourself. And keep talking to us about the choices you are making. We're cheaper than therapy, and keeping it real! We can do this! :-) Do this for you. You deserve to be treated better by yourself. :-)

We all have bad days, and like WonderWoman said take each day as it comes. When you feel like you need to stop try to make the better choice. Once you tell them you want a grilled chicken sandwich or wrap or just a bowl of chilli and a water or diet soda, it's too late to change it, so that's what you're getting. I've become a lot more conscious of what I'm eating when I go out, so it may take me more time to order but I'm making better choices and not having the regret afterward. You can do this!! I've found that taking my lunch with me, or having something healthy available has saved me from those fast food lunches which always seem to lead to wanting sweets or other snacks later. Also, if you're in the car, plan ahead and have something easy you can take with you because if you are just mindlessly eating you may as well be eating some baby carrots, or something rather than a big mac. You're done with that rollercoaster, so make sure you do some planning ahead to stay on that nice steady track! Good luck!!

Thank you! I will make better choices if I do go out, but I will start taking a sandwich with me or some carrots. kmunson you didn't upset me it's what I need to hear! Reading what you said about all the food really made me realize how bad it all is.

I mean I know it's bad, but I really don't think about it.

You should have heard my hubby correcting me as I started dieting. It was not pretty. I am pretty stubborn though...so it took him to make me change.

Eye opener isn't it? Just keep entering what you are eating. Some people can actually plan ahead and enter the food that they WILL be eating. I am not that organized.

That's a good idea kmunson. When I am working I don't get a "lunch" period so I am eating when I can and I usually pack a salad in an insulated bag to carry with me in the summer time and Healthy Request soups I can microwave and then be on the go. Planning ahead really helps. Otherwise, on my working days I'd never get to eat lunch! Hang in there ericam16. It does get easier the more you do it!

Calories add up quick when it's from a fast food chain. Some great suggestions from other members: keep healthy snacks with you and keep junk food out of the house… I forget where I heard this, but some people put their purse/wallet in the trunk of the car while driving. That way if you want to stop for fast food, you’ll have to get your purse/wallet out of the trunk. And hopefully that will be too much of a hassle. :)

Thank you for the buddy request! I have a suggestion for you. Read the Wheat Belly book. If you stop eating all grains ... you will lose. You won't be stopping at the fast food joints either unless its for a salad or lettuce wrapped burger. You won't be hungry either. Good luck to you.

Thanks for adding me mom2boxers I'll look into that. A friend was telling me about that too. and thank you for all the tips. I guess I realized that it isn't going to be easy. And if measuring out every thing I eat, and recording it, and driving with my wallet in the trunk is what I have to do then so be it.
