Bruce07727's Journal, 22 June 2013

Well... I thought I'd been following "my plan" fairly well, but I'm back up again this week. Up a couple then down a couple. Quite a plateau... My back was bothering me a lot this week so my normally minimal exercize was almost non-existent.

Someone at the WW meeting suggested that I'm "practicing for after goal maintenance life - and doing pretty well at it, too!" It's a very positive way to look at something I'm begining to be frustrated with.

My back is getting less annoying now so hopefully I'll start getting my walking in at least more regularly. Going to the mountains for the weekend and maybe I can find a trail or two to explore!

Some things to think about! Are you tracking all your food honestly? All those bites, licks and tastes add up and can make you maintain week after week. Are you getting in your HG's (healthy guidelines)? Lean protein, lean dairy, fruits and veggies. Sometimes WHAT we eat is as important as HOW MUCH. Are you drinking water? Water flushes out sodium and keeps things moving. Are you eating too many processed foods (they contain tons of sodium which can inhibit weight loss in some people)? When you can't exercise, you really need to focus on the diet to lose. We all tend to slack sometimes which can cause us to maintain. Good luck!

I have been on a plateau for weeks and I keep a food journal. I keep my points to 26 a day, but no results. I am going to try to limit my carbs and start Zumba. I hope I can see some results. I will let you know.

Those are great ideas to get off a plateau. Upping protein and high fiber foods and kicking up the exercise. Good luck!

Hi Suzi161. Wow. I didn't realize these notes were public! When I started with WW, I tried very hard and ended up frustrated and burned out trying to "track" everything rather obsessively. I tried both on the computer and on paper and it just takes too long - and never seems accurate anyway. And then there's the impossible task trying to figure out what values go with restaurant & home cooked (not by me) foods. So now the opposite has happened: I don't "track" much anymore. That said, I do try to buy "good things" and I do pre-plan. I package and prepare about all I can ahead of time, which helps keeping portions reasonable, and makes it easier to "assemble" my meals. I think I get enough liquids - some water but mostly sodium-free seltzer (usually 3 to 4 liters daily) & (probably too much) black coffee. Anyway, THANKS for stopping by. I appreciate your thoughts! I get what you're saying, but will need to find a way to make it all fit together a bit easier than it has. Bruce

Hi Patmat7575, I understand your frustration! I'm told some "little changes" can mean a lot. Hopefully your new plan will break the plateau and get you heading to goal again! Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to your udates. Bruce
