healsdata's Journal, 10 September 2008

BadAndee stopped in to ask me why I hadn't journalled in awhile and the simple truth is that I've been lacking enthusiasm about dieting. I've been binging pretty badly on weekends and then "making up for it" during the week with Intermittent Fasting combined with low-carb meals. While this has managed to keep my weight steady, I'm still looking to lose weight and I know in the back of my mind that all the sugar on the weekends isn't good for me.

"Courage is saying, '"Maybe what I'm doing isn't working; maybe I should try something else.'" Anna Lappe, O Magazine, June 2003

So obviously, I have to make a change. I'm going to do my best to adhere to 20g net carbs for the rest of the challenge (only 2.5 weeks) but after that, I'm going to try something else. I ordered a copy of the New Glucose Revelotion last night and I may pick up a copy of South Beach Supercharged to see how that looks. t-nation.com is a big supporter of Volumetrics so I may read over that information as well.

Thanks for all the continued support! I'll need it to get out of this rut.

You can do it - remember sugar and carbs in the long-term in excess can only lead to being overweight and possible diabetes and other complications. I've lost 60 pounds from my highest weight. Don't "settle" for being less than the best you can be! :)

It sounds like you are doing the right thing in researching other ways. The differentr diets that focus on the diabetic cycle seem like lifestyle changes too as opposed to short term weight loss diets. I don't honestly know anythign about volumetrics. But if Atkins is no longer working for you find another to get you off that plateau. I have heard our body even needs a *shock* of some sort to get off the plateau (be it mental or as per the scale) so one of the other plans might suit you better for this part of your journey. You have done a totally FANTASTIC job so far, so stop breath and do what's bets for the next leg of your journey! You can do it!

Kicking the sugar habit now will help you transition into a more moderate plan later. I hope you find what works for you. Hang in there. It takes a lot of guts to admit you need a re-direct. Atkins doesn't really work if you do it part-time because it takes 3-5 days to get back into ketosis after a binge and by then it's the next weekend. Do that research and keep us posted on what you discover. Good luck! I hope you find your answers.

Hey, the hardest part is just realizing that you need a change. Once you get your mind set, you're halfway there. Good luck with the rest of your challenge and with your new start! By the way, great quote.
