March 24. Got very little sleep. Rumors about our science lab/manufactury closing immediately were delivered by emphatic but mistaken fellow worker. Actually we don't close until Thursday. Unfortunately we make precision equipment for electrofishing, and dna testing apparatus for fish, and are not considered essential enough. At least a two week vacation awaits according to Governor Insley although my job is sitting in a 25 x 40 square foot room with a 12 foot ceiling and I am not near anyone at all during my work shift. Most of our execs are working from home, but our manufacturing and repairs goes on in labs where folks may at times be closer than six feet.

One hopes for quicker cures or better testing to catch each case immediately or a vaccine not 18 months away. The whole situation is silly if everyone will inevitably catch the virus.Slowing down the hospitalization curve sounds good but if everyone is hiding away, the virus is still there when they come out. Without some kind of preventatives much of this seems futile. No one can afford an economy shut down for a month, let alone 3. My work supports two invalids and helps my daughter who has two children. It is not whim, nor is it negligible.My informant was wrong about PTO also, thank heavens. Management is taking good care of us.

Because I am so sleepy, I ate 3 squares of Ritter Sport Dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts. Chocolate and coffee do pep one up. Otherwise I have been a careful dieter, and even with the chocolate mayday's calories will total less than 1200. At 77 that doesn't add up to rapid loss but it does insure I don't gain. More food is needed when we don't sleep.
