I am sorry all low-carb counters and Atkins followers, I have decided to do this a different way.

My body is reacting way too badly for the last three weeks that I have been on this diet. I can not adapt to the changes that this diet requires and under my doctor's medical advice (he is also a close family friend), I have decided to diet a different way. I am experiencing way too many problems with the Atkins diet, and I just have to do this another way.

Thank you all, friends, for continuing to be supportive. I hope that you will continue to be in my future on this site:)

Wish me luck!

Adkins is a tough diet to stick with. I myself couldn't hack it after about two weeks. Most of the foods I enjoy are on the list of things you can't have. What are you going to switch to? I myself have just been trying to stick to somewhere around 12oo calories a day. I don't feel as restricted and I think I make better food choices when I know that I can eat what I want within the calorie guideline. Best of luck to you in your weight loss. You have already come a long way. You can continue to do this!!!!!!

Sorry to hear you are having problems with Atkins. Just out of curiosity, what kind of problems are you having? I can't imagine that eliminating sugar, white flour, white rice, pasta and starchy veggies would cause anyone problems. By following Atkins by the book, and eating more vegetables than I ever did prior to low carbing, I've felt so much healthier. The only time I've ever felt bad on Atkins is if I skimped on my veggies or didn't drink enough water. I think the key is being consistent when following Atkins, and keeping the book handy (Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution). The Acceptable Foods list is a really great tool to help you with what you should be eating. Best wishes, Laura

Good luck whatever you chose - Atkins isn't for everyone. For me it was the healthiest thing I could do for myself. My mother is diabetic and overweight and knows she needs to restrict her carbs and sugar intake and refuses. (She's also a former registered nurse here in the USA). Best wishes. Induction is tough, not for everyone, but for myself and my two sisters, and one niece who is an adult it's the easiest way we've all lost weight! Weight Watchers may be for you or one of the many other diets on the fatsecret - hope you succeed! glenn :)

Wow thanks GlennM, The Cheese Goddess, and lorik for your supportive comments:) I agree, as long as I keep it within 1200 calories a day, I will continue to lose weight. I am not going to start eating a bunch of high sugar items or other high carbs to the diet, but I AM going to add HEALTHY carbs back into my diet within the 1200-1500 calories range as I have before. I was doing this only three days prior to Atkins and I was losing weight-just as much as if I had started induction with Atkins. I need to do what's best for me and what works for me, and I am pretty confident this is what works. Thank you friends, for your continued support. This is why I love this website! We are all here for one goal-to lose weight, and long before I was low carbing it, I lost 77 pounds, so I don't think going back to what I was doing is all so bad;) Have a great day everyone!

If you were losing before doing Atkins, then SBD would be a good choice for you. It works you through good carb additions and I love their recipes! Good luck! I wish I could lose without doing strict Atkins. You have to find a lifestyle that works for you. Keep us posted on your progress.

sararay, I took your advice and went out and got the South Beach Heart Program book from my local Library. It is very similar to Atkins, but with less restriction on the carb end of things. It focuses on a preventative diet for heart attack and stroke (which my mother had a stroke 8 years ago-so it makes it a possibility I could have one too one day!). I have already read 10 pages and I love it! Thank you again friends for your comments and support:)
