Talked to my sister and her hubby who are super in shape and got some good pointers on diet and exercise. I took two main things away.

Keep the sugars low and protein high in the morning. after a week of regimented exercise change your work out to keep your body guessing and do high/low interval in each workout instead of a steady pace throughout.
