Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 25 March 2013

I'm being good today. I had one cup of coffee. I got into the easter spirit and ate an enormous amount of baby carrots. But.. so far there have been no candy, no soda, no chips, and no cursing in front of the amish. There was cursing.. but no amish. So technically. I'm being good. I'm even drinking enough water to float a small boat.

I read somewhere that there is a trick to making yourself feel full with fiber. Supposedly if I eat my weight in greens I should expand my stomach enough to make myself feel full longer and avoid cravings. My body doesn't work this way. When I eat salad I instantly crave chocolate like a butterfinger or an oreo. So now I'm wondering if maybe I just didn't put enough greens in my salad. The bag of lettuce says it has 2 servings. For once the serving size is bigger than I thought it was! It's a miracle! There is only one problem. When you put half a bag of lettuce on a plate it seems to get fluffier and you end up with an enormous serving of salad. This is when the new engineer at work decides to pop is head in and ask a question. At which point his eyes pop out of his head when he notices half my desk is taken up with salad. At which point I feel I have to show him the serving size on my bag of lettuce. He thinks its a misprint. I still don't know what his question is and now I'm wondering if it is a misprint. *smacks head* Either way.. its green, leafy, and not a butterfinger. I wonder if the engineer will be brave enough to come back after lunch. Maybe I should save a piece to put between my front teeth for when he shows up and see if he says something.

I figure if I can continue to be good from now to when my madness challenge starts I might actually succeed at my own challenge. Or.. I will fail miserably and you'll all get a kick out of watching me fail.

We will NOT get a kick out of watching you fail, we won't LET you fail! So there! No failure! Nope! Nuh-uh! Not allowed! LOL-yeah, salad does grow doesn't it? Eventually you just get tired of chewing. HOWEVER-dumping a bunch of high fiber stuff on your system when it isn't expecting it can cause...blockage. So maybe a little moderation? (it's not a misprint by the way-salad has so few calories it's ridiculous, it's just all the crap that gets piled on it that makes it taste so good...I mean, adds all those nasty calories!)

I'm so glad there is someone out there who thinks like me. :0)

Yeah I've read all that about the fiber thing... wish that was the reason I am feeling so "full"... yeah that's it full... Looks like lettuce servings go between 2 and 3 cups. Whether I do 2 or 3 depends on what else I'm putting in and how starving I am. 3 is ALOT by the time you top it. Only time I do 3 most days now is if it's lettuce protein and dressing and that's it. Sorry I couldn't join your challenge... I refuse to give up my pepsi max! I was doing good with the other one until Sat nigt...ugh!

If I have a salad it's got to have chicken, egg, or some sort of meat, or I would not be full at all. I eat a little all day and that works for me, breakfast before work, a fruit in the a.m. & maybe a cheese stick, lunch, baby carrots, then some sort of snack in the p.m. about an hour or so before I go home and work out (cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shake). People here look at me like I'm crazy because I'm eating all day. Good luck with all that salad!!

I had the salad with 3 cups of lettuce (well they said it was spring blend lettuce.. it looked like weeds), 4 oz of chicken, and dressing. The chicken got lost. I think the lettuce ate it. It's 3 o'clock.. and I call the experiment a fail. Luckily.. I have more carrots. By this time next week my skin will be orange.

I like to do small amounts all day as well. I don't get that sleepy bloated feeling that I do from a big meal.

I have heard of that salad stuff. Isn't that what real food eats?

I buy the mixed salad greens - lettuce, red cabbage, carrots - then add tomatoes, maybe cukes, top it with Blue cheese dressing (DH goes Yuck at that lol) and then some sunflower seeds - once in a while a little shredded cheese, or I'll cook up some of the chicken breast-in-a-bag from WallyWorld...that usually does it for me. But I think you're right about the lettuce eating the chicken - I just didn't know lettuce was carnivorous lol - If I wind up needing something crunchy or salty (that's my downfall, instead of chocolate *gasp*!) I head for the Pork Rinds - no carbs and you can crunch to your hearts content - just be careful tho, cause they love to fight with your teeth!!! (just ask my dentist - I have to get a crown thanks to those things - just can't stay away tho) Keep up the entertaining posts! love them

I eat so many carrots everyday I worry about the side effects too lol! Maybe it is really something in the dressing making you crave sweets. I put cottage cheese on my salad so I use way less dressing.
