Ok, I need to rant. About work, not weight.

Long story short, I'm a temp. Basically hired to get the workload under control. It's me and another woman working from Houston who is also a temp.

I got the work under control months ago. The job is nice, easy, I get to work from home. Pays REALLY well. At the beginning, I was told it would lead to a permanent position. Now, I'm being told it won't. Well, I was told a while ago that it more than likely won't.

Well, now, they have piled MORE work on my coworker - that is not really all that related to our department. Therefore, they're handing HER work off on ME.

It's not really the work thing that has me peeved. I'll work. It's the fact that it seems they are trying to get the temps to do as much work as possible right before they let our asses go in a month and a half. It just pisses me off, that I worked my ass off, got the work caught up, and I'm still going to be out of a job again in a couple months. I've gone 6 months without benefits, without time off, thinking it would lead to something good and long term, but no. It's just going to end up with me being unemployed again and probably having to go back to a shitty customer service job that I HATE.

Ugh.

Sorry to hear about the job issue. Keep in mind that a lot of companies do have to hire temps because the current workforce cannot keep up. It saves the company from having to pay out benefits and/or leave. It really does save them money. On the other hand, proving to them during your temp assignment that you can handle anything and everything will get you noticed. While it might not benefit you now, it might down the road. Think of all the benefits you have right now, like getting a paycheck instead of unemployement, working from your home instead of commuting, and so on and so forth. Hope it will all work out for you in the end.

Yeah, but health insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, oh, and job security would be much nicer.

Yes, I know that they are. I was a temp here for 2 years. No health insurance, no security, etc.. They ended up keeping me as a temp while I was working on my AA degree. After 5 full long years I finally got my permanent job with benefits. It wasn't all that easy though. I really had to work hard at standing out and being irreplaceable. Just stick with it and work your ass off. Hopefully they will see how valuable you are.

I have a permanent job, and I have paid time off, but no health insurance, they "just don't offer it," was what I was told when I was hired. I needed a job so desperately, that I took it. I'd rather work 365 days a year straight with no time off, if I could get medical.
