Saturday's update

Just got back from a special solstice Indian dinner at my friend's place--her mom is a fabulous cook and cooks up a storm for this night! Great night, lovely crowd, and..um..ate a lot!!!

I came home and weighed myself and I see that I've gained 3 lbs just from the weight of the food!! I did work out well today and am hoping that some of that will offset any damage on the scales tomorrow! (More about that in a sec), but while I'm talking about dinner, just to wrap that up--I did have the appetizer (some of it was fried), and the actual meal--I had seconds!! (While everyone else had thirds!!). There was a chick pea curry, a saffron/almond/nuts rice dish, a cucumber, veggies yogurt salad with fritters on top, a zucchini kofta curry (kofta probably also fried), and a potato crepe (dosa) with all sorts of coconut and cilantro chutneys. (There was couple of chicken and meat dishes which I obviously skipped!). For dessert, there was an icecream-based dish and gulab jamuns (fried, sweet balls in a sugar syrup)--I skipped all dessets, but did have some chai with sugar. Had 1 glass and a quarter of wine (left my second glass mostly unfinished), and as I said, skipped the dessert entirely--those are about the only "sacrifices" I made. My stomach must have shrunk over time, coz I ate less than everyone there and yet am uncomfortably full even 3 hours after dinner!! Did I regret it? Not one bit!! Some meals are meant to be enjoyed to the fullest extent--calories be damned! (THis is especially true in contrast to the restuarant-Indian food I have--it all always smells and tastes so good-- but then it's always so bad after just a few spoonfulls--high fat, high salt, high cals! And the next day, stomach's in a bad shape and the the scales are yelling high numbers!! And it always feels like, "that so wasn't worth all this!"...well, today's meal was totally worth any gain I'll see! I planned the day better BEFORE going to the dinner (ate only about 10 pts or so). The rest of the evenign was not entirely managable. I'll leave it at that.

So, earlier today, I did 1 hour of working out: 30 mins of treadmill (215K) with 6 run intervals, 15 mins of bike (75K), and 2 sets each of lateral raises and bicep curls. I sweated quite a bit,so time well spent.

Water intake was decent--about 2.5 liters, so a little less than usual, but ok...it wasn't a warm day today, so a little less water is ok, I guess.

I still haven't started my early morning workouts!! Don't know why I have fallen off that habit completely!!! I am going to be more realistic and shoot for 9 am tomorrow. I've made an appt. w/ my gym buddy too--hopefully that'll serve to get me going.

Ok, one final thing I want to ponder on: the current stalled weight-loss. In the last two weeks, I have seen minor ups and downs--and as a result no real loss on average. I have been working out consistenly, and mostly keeping to my points. Some of the eating-out, and drinking 2-4 times a week (even if it's just one glass of wine or so each time), may contribute to this stall. But it does seem like my body yields about a 5 pd loss each time in good, consistent manner, and then goes into a plateau for 3-4 weeks at a time!!! THis pattern seems to have played out in my 20-pd loss to date that has taken almost 5 months!!

So, I'm trying to figure out if there's something I can do to break this patten, and accelerate the weight-loss a little more? I was hoping to lose at least 20 more pounds before my big b'day in September--I thought that was totally realistic, at about 8 pds or so per month. This would have put me in a normal BMI--and I'd love to give myself that as a b'day present!!!

So here's where I need some help from my awesome FS buddies (a-la-Caged Liberty-Style ;))! Guys, any ideas what I should do differently to get to the above goal? I'd love any ideas and pointers you can provide!! Left to my own devices, I can only think of some drastic steps such as not eating out at all, or cutting out all drinking, and working out double of what I'm doing now. I can certainly start with the last one, and see what happens, but it's a frustrating dance of one step forward and one step back, and as a result the net results seem to show halted movement, period. Well, open to some other perspectives. Thanks!

Meals except dinner:
Breakfast: 1 home-made muffin (5 pts)
1 activia yogurt (1)
Pre-workout: almonds and mixed nuts (4)

First of all, I want the zucchini kofta recipe please! I miss dosas. I miss papri chaat..I miss Indian food! When you are a vegetarian and on Atkins, Indian food is sooo out of the window *sob* (Ok..I am not a vegetarian, but I dont eat meat from outside restaurants). Personally, and this is only an opinion, I think you might need to cut back or cut out the wine tasting. I know that can affect weight loss and one way to find out if it is affecting you is to be able to rule it out. If you dont drink for a week and you still dont lose, it probably wasnt the wine causing the stall. Hey if you can exercise double..damn girl..go for it..(just give me a couple of those energy pills as well!!)

Sorry hun, I've completely stalled and am looking into a completely whole-food diet and allergy investigation, so I'm no help. Your supper sounded amazing though, and like you said, so much better fresh and homemade!! You sound like you are really enjoying your life and having great experiences, so as long as you are generally making healthy choices then I wouldn't worry about the scales so much, they will get there and you won't have to say 'I gave up my life to be thin!'

mmmmmm I'm drooling at the food descriptions!!! I had a meal out at one of our favourite Indian restaurants last night. I was fully after the starter so I know what you mean about your stomach shrinking! Didn't stop me enjoying some of my main course though! lol As for the plataeau - I wish I could wave a magic wand for you. Maybe try to cut out the wine for a week and see what happens? Maybe try the WW wine, I don't know what it's like as I've never had it....... They say varying your points every day can help too although, again, I've never tried it myself. If you google the Wendi plan you can find more info on that. If I think of anything else I'll let you know but you're doing great! I'm at a loss stand still too so if you find the magic answer then be sure to pass it on ;0)

Oh, that food does sound like it was well worth any damage on the scales. Yum. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. Sorry to report that I have also failed the challenge but at least you get a workout done later on. Yesterday I was without redemption. I am interested to see the answers you get to your question as it took me over 2 months to get out of the 190's (and I say that with trepidation as I am not sure if I'm safely out just yet). My advice would be to try one thing per week and see what results it yields and whether you feel the effort is sustainable. The zig zag plan that oliversgoldfish mentioned is worth trying. Upping the exercise should help with results if you focus on extra aerobic activities more than on toning. If you could cut out the dinners out and drinking, that would most likely help, but is becoming a hermit the answer? Maybe commit to allowing a set number of splurge days, one a week or less perhaps. Let yourself go out on other days but don't drink anything other than 0 calorie drinks and don't eat anything that isn't healthy and within your normal points for the day. But if none of these ideas really appeal to you, the other plan is to not put a set goal and time frame on yourself. Let yourself enjoy the social eating and drinking in moderation and accept a slower weight loss. Whatever you decide, I wish you continued success and happiness!

8 lbs a month seems like a possible 2lb per week avaerage.. and thats very doable.. and sure if ya missed your target by a few lbs, smiles, I bet you'd still be delighted at all the loss that you achieved. So steady as she goes my friend... this is shaping up to being a very happy September! (two of mine have birthdays in sept also on the 8th and the 26th).. Now... I'm off to the nearest Indian!

Indian food is the best! My hubby and I love it (just had a cauliflower dish last night actually)! I'll see if I can remember to grab one of the spice packets that we discovered recently and post it here so you know the name/brand...makes AMAZING authentic Indian food, and...its 0 points, and very low sodium. As for tips in helping you lose weight faster. Quite a few years back, someone told me to cut out carbs in the last 2 meals before you exercise (this will especially help with the fact that you are doing your exercise first thing in the morning). It worked, and it worked fast. BUT...I love my carbs...sooooo I quickly threw that out the window =) Good luck! =)
