Thursday, the 19th:

So, as Evelyn mentioned in her journal, she and I have started our own mini-challenge to finally fight the procrastination of waking up early and getting our workout done early--Can we call it out, "Push against Procrastination" movement? LOL! Well, day 1, and I had set the alarm, and woke up right at 6 am, and first thought--I promised Evelyn! I gotta get up!..but then,I had a second thought (god forbid those!!), and that was...uh.."two mins..just..need..two..mins..more..feel..so..tired..sleep...more"!! Well, whatdyaknow..the next thing, it was 8.30 am or so, and I was getting late for work! So, no working out in the mornign today (sorry, Evelyn! I already broke my part of the deal :(! But in words of Edgar Allen Poe.."Nevermore"! Tomorrow, no matter how tired or sleep-deprived I may feel, I will hop out of bed and hop to it!! My solemnest-solemn promise!!! (Don't give up on me yet!)

Well, other than this bad start to the day, the rest of the day's gone well. I did finally work out later in the day and spent a good hour or so doing so. I re-started my C25k running program today on the treadmill, and did 30 mins (8 run intervals of 1 min each)..sweated quite a bit, but burned the same amt of calories as usual, i.e, 222K. I also did weights--this only 2 sets each of biceps, upright shoulders, and lateral raises----and for some reason these were all very hard today. I was getting tired half-way through each set. Maybe I'm finally paying more attention to the form? And maybe also because I put more resistance on the lowering of the weights also--not just for lifting them.

Meals were good; I was trying to be on a lighter points load earlier in the day to prepare for the evening's winetasting (Yes, Caged Liberty, I do belong to a wine-group, and the new organizer is fabulous--she scopes out amazing venues, festivals, and events related to wine, so we end up having as many as 2-3 events per week!! I can't make it to all of them, of course! )

Today was a blind-tasting, and more than 60 people showed up! It was very cool. Great venue, fun idea, great summer weather...everyone was in a great mood, and I felt very good too--I received many compliments---one of the girls kept showing me off to her friends (I think she was a little tipsy:)! One of the guys, who was standoffish in the past, asked me out for coffee...and another guy who'd taken my no. last time and never called, came up and said hi (and funnily enough, I had almost forgotten who he was! Perfect revenge!). Anyway, all this flattering stuff is addictive---it makes me continue to be interested in working out---obviously, it pays off! Sadly, people are too shallow to notice our personalities on its own--without the pretty surface package to go along with it! Oh well! If you can't fight 'em--you gotta join 'em, right?!

BTW, I did quite well at guessing the wine varietals, countries, bouquests, and main ingredients in them--for 4 out of 6--not bad! However, didn't win the prize---no one did! Apparently, this kind of test is too hard! Other than that, I had tried to fortify myself and eat before going out (had a veggie patty and made a real quick steamed veggie stir fry with pesto). At the event, I had a few pieces of cheese and 3-4 small pieces of toasts....skipped the bread and many other decadent-looking stuff. Had a total of 6 ounces (is that one glass total?). The rest of the evenign, I sipped on water and diet soda---even though every else was merrily imbibing more wine and beer.

Some of my lab tests came back, but many are still pending. So, nothing to report until tomorrow. I was quite busy getting stuff done at work so didn't have time to go to the rec center either. But that'll be tomorrow as well. Will let ya'll know what I find out (Herbie, I'll be sure to ask about any faculty privacy-perks that I can get! LOL! I certainly don't want to run into students' meet-market or locker-room action! :))

Meals and points for today:
Brunch: Finer one cereal and light vanilla soy milk (2)
peanuts (2)
Post-workout: protein pwd and light soy milk (3)
Dinner: 1 veggie patty (2) and stir fry veggies with pesto containing oil (2)
1 glass wine (2)
few pieces cheeses and toasts (10-12 pts???)

Should be right about at my points. However, worried that the wine and cheese will still prevent any weight-loss tomorrow. As for yesterday's carb-intake, it's hard to determine whether my scales were affected by it or not. I didn't see a dramatic up or down. In fact, the weight seems to have been plateauing in the last week or so!! I hope today's running will have kicked it up a little (although the wine may have offset any good! We'll see). I feel I should be stricter--but I really don't know how, other than not going out at all!! I'm trying to do this in moderation, but apparently, each bit and bite seems to leave a residue on the scale! We'll see what happens tomorrow on the scale; if this plateau continues, I'll really have to go into a "diet mindset" and actually give up some things completely--not just in moderation. To be decided later.

Ok, this got long. Gotta hit the sack. 'night night!

Whoo Hoo..getting hit on all night long? I think the only person who didnt think you were pretty was you and you have been proven wrong!! Good for you.Just remember that men by nature are predispositioned to be stimulated by visual images, so dressing up is not a bad thing. I am wondering though, what did you wear? (got a spare outfit?)

At least you didn't let your oversleeping wreck your day - well done on squeezing in a great workout! The wine-tasting sounds fantastic, and that's great that you received so many compliments. In know what you mean about the shallowness of some people, but just enjoy all the attention now and let it spur you on to even greater success!! You're doing so well, Amy - keep up the fantastic work! :)

No harm, no foul for missing the first day's challenge - you still got a great workout later on in the day so all was not lost! This just proves how much we NEED this. LOL. Kudos for making healthy choices at your wine tasting. Considering how good you were and accommodating the extra points, I don't see how it could negatively effect your weight loss. You are getting to be quite masterful at having an enjoyable evening out and not blowing it with over indulgences. You should be quite proud of that! Keep doing what you're doing 'cause you're doing great... in 08!
