Jessi-girl's Journal, 23 May 2008

We were invited to a get together today and we had so much fun. It was our first time over to their home, but we are in Sunday School Class with them. I felt kind of weird because i brought my own turkey sausage dogs and wheat hot dogs, as well as some oranges and water packets (we were grilling out). I wasn't trying to be rude, i just really want to take advantage of my motivation right now. I explained that i was trying to eat right, and she seemed to understand but i left still feeling like i had done something wrong to her as a hostess. She also made some scrumpcious looking brownies but it was 8:30 by the time they were cut and i just didn't want to eat that late so i asked if i could take mine home and eat it with a glass of milk in the morning. Mindyou that my husband and children all devoured theirs so the brownies were eaten by my family and hers, i just feel guilty. Did i cross a line that i shouldn;t have since we don't know them that well ? or was i justified? Who knows, maybe i am just completely overreacting.

I know it is so hard to go over to someone's house and follow the healthy eating. I don't think you crossed a line, maybe let the hostess know ahead of time and see if it's ok to bring your own. Who knows, maybe she'll surprise you and make something that is healthier. The brownie suggestion was good, that you'd eat it in the morning. Just explain that you are absolutely stuffed and couldn't eat another bite, but the brownies look so good you're going to savour it in the morning.

I agree about the advanced notice maybe being a good idea, but I don't think you were out of line at all. It is much more polite to explain what's going on than eat practically nothing and look like you thought her cooking sucked!
