I had my DNA sequenced by 23 and me several years ago. it is so interesting what science is able to determine obout every aspect of your life from saliva sample.. I receive updates as new genetic testing occurs. Today I received a report related to my likelihood of developing T2 diabetes after age 70 (I’m almost 71]. The bottom line is that I am at much higher risk based on my genetics than the average person. . I have type T2 diabetes everywhere in my family tree. Neither of my parents were obese and neither had diabetes. Then, based on a survey I took related to my current weight and past weight, my activity level, my diet, my fast food consumptions, my soda intake, red meat intake, and my intake of grains, beans , nuts , fruits and vegetable they did a revised calculation that indicated that despite my genetics my chances of developing T2D at my age were greatly reduced . Now that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen, I means that if I continue eating and living my life as I currently am, my chances are as good as I can make them For not ending up with this particular disease. I can’t ask for more than that. Doing the best I can to stay healthy, and at this time I take no meds except prescription strength vit D.
