Feeling very emotional today. With Father's Day right around the corner - we have been talking about Diabetes and the silent killer that it is (in group). My dad died from diabetes. And he didn't have to. He had kidney failure and was on dialysis - but that didn't have to happen either. He was facing having his feet amputated. His sight was nearly gone. And his life was being sustained by machines.

If I only knew then what I know now...

But I will not be burdened by that thought. He was a strong man - and produced a strong daughter. And I will NEVER go back to the way I was.

If you are struggling with your weight, and struggling with diabetes - please - do whatever you have to do to evaluate the nutritional part of this disease. You can literally save your life! And save your loved ones from the sorrow that will be inflicted on them when you are gone, needlessly....there are ways to change your body and it's mechanics...and you do NOT have to live in fear of this disease.

send me a message if you need support. I will gladly help you.

Amazing. Precisely the reason I began Atkins. My dad is diabetic (though not yet insulin dependent) and in conversations with him he told me his doctor let him know that if he didn't change how he ate he was well on his way to insulin dependence. His doctor is a saint and gave him a list of carbohydrates that have a "low glycemic index" and told my Dad, "You eat these with healthy portions of protein and fat." Dad has been eating this way for a while and his numbers have changed. Dad is the one that showed me that maybe I had to re-think how I was eating. Hurray for Dads and their courage!

Your story is really touching. For me it brings to light that working on this stuff is more than just working towards fitting into a smaller size and looking thin. By cutting way back on sugar and all the high glycemic foods and by eating enough protein and good fats we are giving our bodies a chance to feel better and work better. And we are improving our chances of avoiding a whole host of complications related to obesity. Thanks sharing and thanks for your strength and positive outlook.
