So far, I've been very good at keeping track of my food intake. I hope to continue this. However, several of my co-workers think 1000 calories a day is too few for a guy my size and that I'm risking putting my body into 'starvation mode.' They recommended I stay around 1500.

I'm still working on looking that up. But I didn't have much breakfast today so I splurged on a Subway sandwich for dinner. It was a little difficult to get the exact amount of calories - I used the Nutrition Calculator on Subway's website, and it came out to more than 800, but the auto-fill here was just 640. I did my best to split it into two meals but ended up just slowly munching on it for about an hour. It was pretty delicious and definitely the most substantial meal I've eaten in a while

Hey Jason, congrats on your weightloss so far!!! i agree with your co-workers, about 1000 calories being way too small for you, because it will cause your system to shut down, because you need to eat enough so your metobolism can do its job properly, and help your body to actually lose the weight, and maintain. (like a car, you need enough fuel in order for it to go, and if your not filling up, your body can only do so much) Losing weight is a Math Game, and i was not good at math in school, so i can see how i suck at it in real life, but heres what the dr told me about losing weight-and maintaining it, (this is a sort of summary of how i figured out how many calories i need to take in, in order to lose weight-but for a guy, theres a different calculation that u will need, but i added the website that may be able to help u figure it out)-and how to figure out the right calories for YOU! its not a one size fits all concept, because we are all different, so if you (meaning me) do not exercise at all-multiply your GOAL WEIGHT x 13...if you exercize 3-4x's a week@an hour-multiply your GOAL WEIGHT x 15...these are the number of calories you(me) need to take in in order to maintain this weight, but wait-thats not how much you wanna literally take in initially!!- Your current weight x's 13= the amount of calories you are taking in to maintain that current weight. You want to subtract your CURRENT CALORIE INTAKE (CURRENT WEIGHTX13/OR 15 (DEPENDING ON YOUR EXERCISE) - GOAL CALORIE INTAKE (GOAL WEIGHTX13/15)= THE number of calories u need to cut back on, BUT you wanna do it in thirds (1/3 of the number) each week to lose about 1-2 pounds each week without starving yourself...this is what i did to figure out how many calories i need to take in to lose weight-however for a man, there is a diff calculater thing u can use -i found something on this website that u may find helpful...but the point of this was that yes, 1000CALORIES IS DEF NOT ENOUGH AND YOU WILL NEED TO EAT MORE TO LOSE WEIGHT..(sounds like an oxy-moron, but its true)- http://nutrition.about.com/library/bl_nutrition_guide_men.htm. i hope this helps alittle, cause i no when i re-read it just now before i sent it to u, it was a little confusing, but the website may answer ur questions better, since i am in no way an expert i do no that the calorie counting is the key. Good Luck and Keep up the good work!!
