I need a good swift kick in the pants to get me exercising again. Please help. I have to wait till my son is in bed so he doesn't bug me. I think about walking the treadmill all day, I am ready willing and able and then I get my son to bed and I can't seem to force myself to climb on and get moving. HELP ME!!!

dont stress. its completely understandable that at the end of a long, hard day, the last thing you want to do is jump on the treadmill and work out. what i do (which often works) is find a TV show or movie that I particularly enjoy, and play it as im working out. its not the same as kicking back on the couch, but its fun anyways! also, try to tempt yourself with a "reward" for exercising. Allow yourself a 100-calorie snack after youre done for all your hard work. it will give you something to work towards. if you cant seem to get on the treadmill every day, on your off days, find exercise that you can do throughout the day. go up and down unnecessary aisles in the supermarket. do lunges while folding laundry. turn on some music and dance as youre cooking dinner. it sounds silly, but its still exercise!!

thanks for the kicks and the tips. I actually just made myself do the treadmill and now I feel great and full of energy. Now I can kick back and relax. I didnt' wait till my son was in bed and he did bug me twice but it wasn't too bad. Thanks again for the support.

Ok, there's a kick! No... only joking - aw, I know the feeling with having kids around it can be difficult. Where's your treadmill... is it somewhere where you could watch TV while you're doing it? That's how I get myself on my elliptical trainer... wait for some things I like watching, then get striding. Now, if you can do it a few times and get it to be more than just a one off here and there... then eventually you will want to do it - honestly! Have you also thought about some thing like exercise dvd's... I've found variation helps too, then you don't get bored. I've recently bought myself a little selection after reading reviews at places like Amazon just to get some ideas. You can often get dvd's that contain a variation of workouts... some perhaps only 10 mins for toning, but if you do them fairly regularly, then it's surprising how quickly you will get results if the exercises are for targeted areas. I've been working out with resistance bands some of the time and already in a few weeks can see a difference. One dvd that I've got is called Dyna-Band the Total Body Workout and contains five 10 minute workouts that you can do over 5 days, or else do any combination back to back. The instructor is a bit bland... but the exercises that she does are sure targeted for certain areas over the 5 sessions, so personally I think are pretty good. In just a few weeks of doing this, I am getting stronger and do so many more of the repetitions - so in just a short time, I feel I'm improving. I don't know where you are in the world, but that dvd is a multi-region dvd, so can be used anywhere in the world. I've also found it useful to keep a record of my exercise, so you might find that writing it down would be a motivator for you. Anyway, keep up the great work and keep focusing on the reasons that you want to lose weight. ;o)

Thanks everyone, and MoonLite, you are right, I WAS on the treadmill when you were writing your post. lol. I ended up giving myself a kick and I am glad I did. My treadmill is downstairs in my bedroom and I do watch tv in there while I'm walking. I have to get a new dvd player in there cuz mine just stopped working and I would rather watch a movie other than tv shows that have commercials. Oh well, I will just live with tv till I get around to buying another dvd player. Thanks again

Have you thought about taking outside walks WITH your son? Ask him if he wants to be your coach/trainer. Bet he'd love to tell you what to do, or be part of getting Mommy healthy! Maybe shooting baskets with him for 30 minutes, or a 30 minute walk or jog, or something like that??
