my girl of 15 yrs died last night. I've had her since she was 4 months old. I don't want to hear poor thing, or any of that, I'd like to hear how you got your best friends and funny story's about them please. I need to smile. I got Harley when she was 4 months old. I was feeding some dogs in a pen for an older lady a d 3 dogs had what I thought was a mop head. a very dirty mop head, until it cried out. then I relieved it was a very fuzzy, very muddy, puppy. it was her mom and 2 other females basically trying to pull her apart. I beat them all, scooped her up, dared anybody to stop me, and took her home. she was shaking as much as I was. I washed her up, treated her wounds which were superficial, and never looked back. Harley was so smart I had her pad trained completely in 3 days, we taught her when lights were out u whisper. she always had trouble seeing at dusk and dawn. only dog I ever met that was near sighted. would never walk on a leash, but was never an issue because she walk right with me, and listened well. she hated bare floors, hated walking through doorways and for the longest time would only go backwards through them. putting her n a cage traumatized her. taking her to a vet meant someone literally held her the whole time at the vet, she would not help, or corporate. just dead weight, groomer too. very sweet girl. Favorite memory was waking up one morning and the furnace hadn't came on for some reason and here's Harley curled in a ball with 3 cats and 4 kittens. All snuggling up together. Little runt laying on top. her best 4 legged friends where a cat named sam who constantly cleaned her face, a dog named sandy who shes buried beside, and my moms dog gelphi. She was 30 pounds long haired, tan and white sheltie collie mix. my very best friend for 15 special years!

Awwww what wonderful memories!! I have a senior puggo Named Gertrude and she has been with me through just about every devastating moment and every joy in my adult life. She's a special girl, I'm pretty sure she's got some interesting mental/neurological disorder because this is the only dog I've ever seen never experience shame or embarrassment. She is my absolute best friend and I miss the years she spent sleeping by my side. She has sense become a bed wetter :( She's had some close calls through her life but she's a trooper. She is now completely deaf and partially blind but manages on hand gestures and generally just trusting she ought to go where I am. she is 100% food motivated and nothing else. I tried to teach her to fetch many times. She will have none of it. lol

We rescued all 3 of our dogs. 1st 2 were well behaved, smart and lived long lives. We miss them still Our 3rd rescue is a blue heeler, which by nature are quirky dogs. We got Sydney at 6 years old, and she had been severely abused. She is afraid of everything! We work with her everyday and slowly she began to trust us. She still doesn't like other people but we got her to where she will tolerate others. Alot of household sounds scare her so we figure she must have been chained up outside. She has scars on her legs that we think we're from getting wrapped up in chains. Anyway, she is so smart and loyal and even though she still has alot of issues, she trusts us and is loving and loyal to us. She brings us joy by seeing her play with her babies, which she wouldn't do at first. We are happy we are able to make her 2nd half of life a good and secure one. She travels with us and loves the car. As long as she is with us she is happy!💜💜💜

All my pets have been rescues. My first dog was a Border Collie around 2 yrs old when I found him quivering at the back of a cage at the city shelter. The attendant tried to encourage me to get the cute puppy in his cage but I insisted on meeting the poor shaking dog. The attendant kept warning me that he would be a biter and that he was scheduled for euthanasia the next day. I had to have him. I took him home, ran to the store to buy food, etc. and when I got back he was gone from my fenced yard. I was convinced he had jumped the fence (still a joke in my family). picked him up the next morning from the city and promptly named him Hobo. He was the gentlest and sweetest dog you could ever meet. He loved to run but wouldn't play with any toys, I think because he just didn't learn how as a puppy. He was with me just shy of his 19th birthday. Still miss him and think about him often. I now tell my dog Data (5) that he has a lot to live up to to walk in Hobo's paws 🐾. but I love him just as he is too. 💙

🤫 Don’t tell my husband about this… It was shortly before Christmas when my daughter thought it would be a good idea to attach a leash to a chair, while it was also attached to Roxy, our Golden Retriever. What happened next was complete chaos! For some reason Roxy took off running, with the chair in tow, from the dining room, into the living room. While she was in the living room the chair took down the Christmas 🎄 tree! It was a wild scene!😳 Luckily, we were able to put everything back before my husband came home 🏠 Thank goodness it didn’t happen during COVID-19 shutdown.

My rescue kitty has turned out to be the most loving little thing. He got the tip of his tail caught in the screen door this weekend. It's probably broken, but he doesn't seem to be in any pain at all. Now when he walks with his tail straight up, the top 3 inches are bent at a 90 degree angle. I guess he'll forevermore have a quirky little tail bend! I'm very sorry for your loss.

One time we had Freckles gated in the living room and when I came home he had opened a couch cushion and tore the cushion foam apart into little pieces. I knew my husband would be maaaaad so I stuffed it all back in and sewed it up. Nothing was said and a few weeks later we come home and it's happened again but there's still some in the cushion. My husband says "how did he rip up the foam and then stick it back in?" I confessed and we had a good laugh. We've had Arnie sit in my daughter's plate of meatloaf, Duke pulled her sandwich off the counter and drug it upstairs, Freckles ate her ham out of the bread, leaving just the bread. They are no longer with us but the memories they leave are priceless 💗

My husband's dog is a senior puggle. Shes 15. She can no longer do stairs or jump. She believes she runs the house lol. She tells us when she's hungry or when she wants up or down or just whatever lol. Looks like she melts into his chair. I call her the football. Even bought her a football costume. Tell my hubby I'm gonna punt her to the moon. Shes constantly quarreling at something about something lol. He tells me to leave the old lady alone she has to b loud she can't hear herself bark lol. Its become our joke. She's become a bed wetter but it isn't often yet. Bed has a pad on it and on his chair and she sleeps on his side. After losing Harley Monday night he's so paranoid about Daisy. Ty all so much for sharing your memories. I cried reading some, good tears. It helps knowing others understand.

The first dog i have had was a mini pinscher named Bandit. We were in the Poconos and saw an event in a parking lot (not sure what it was) we stopped. It was an adoption day with dogs and cats and a mini pinscher caught my eye although he didn’t want anything to do with us. We ended up bringing him home. He was my best friend all through high school and college. Died the year I graduated college though (age of 9). I now have a long hair chihuahua named Sissy.

We are dog people and feel ur loss. My wife recently got a mini Yorkie (4lbs full grown) and we still have our old man Archie a 14y/o Maltese. Our Yorkie who is almost 8 months is a hoot. Cassius thats the Yorkies name, loves to hide his food and toys its hilarious too because before he put it in his so called hiding place if he looks up and sees you looking at him he gets an attitude and goes to try and find another spot. He has so much personality. We love how a day or two later he will show up with something he has hidden with the look like he has done something or kept something from us or Archie like we care lol 😆 he is a mess

Sixteen years ago, my daughter found her on the streets. She was hungry, crying, and less than a month old. We put up signs, notified the shelters, and asked around- nobody came forward, so, after waiting the required 30 days, she was ours.

Allow yourself to grieve, some people don’t understand that this is a family member, not just a pet. Our boy Brucie passed 2 years ago this July, and my heart still aches. You are absolutely right to remember the fun times to help get you through.

My first 'pillow cat' came off the roof of a restaurant where I worked. A man tossed him out after his girlfriend left him, so he tossed the cat out of the window from the building next door. The dishwashers would go up to roof to smoke and he landed on the roof among them. Clinton, the busboy, said he'd take him home. I thought about that kitten ALL weekend. On Monday, Clinton said he couldn't keep the kitten. I said GO GET THAT KITTEN FOR ME RIGHT NOW. PLEASE. Long haired, buff and white, such soft and silky hair, never needed grooming, he loved water and would get in the shower and tub. I named him Baby Peanut. Such a beautiful and loving pet. When a window was left open he went missing. I looked everywhere, put up signs, the neighborhood was plastered w lost posters, the zoning officer of the township called to tell me to remove them or get fined. I walked outside at all hours calling and calling for him. Finally some college students two houses away, returned him because they couldn't bear it any longer, hearing me cry over losing him, calling him constantly. Thank god they gave him back. I loved him because he was so loyal and sweet. He bought so much comfort to me in rough times. I still miss him, and my heart aches, but I feel blessed for having him. He was a joy. Even people who said they hate cats adored him. Thanks. Wishing you the best.

My cat had 2 owners before me. She's a petite grey cat with yellow eyes. Very mischievious! I got her at about 1 yr. 10 mos. old. A year later her previous owner passed away and her remaining cats and dog were brought to the pound. My sweet Chinook is now 15 yrs. 2 mos. old and just as much of a trouble maker as ever! She still climbs into bed with me every night for pets and brushes.
