I have a really bad relationship with food. I really thought Keto would be my way to get my cravings under control.

Well, it was, but at a cost.

I have become overly obsessive with everything that goes into my mouth. I get stressed at family events because I literally couldnt eat anything. My boyfriend and I fight about how I have to measure every little thing and that that one bite of something isn't going to kill me (he's supportive but doesnt understand sometimes). I am starting to hate how every single moment of my waking existence is about what I'm going to eat and wondering if I can eat it.

Keto has, however, changed my taste buds for the better. I despise the taste of breads, because they taste like balls of sugar. Pizza is never a thought in my brain. All sodas taste like pure chemicals. Regular potatoes taste so bland that I spit them out. All of these things that are really bad for me I have lost a taste for.

I have used Keto as a tool to get rid of the bad foods in my life. However, I do not know if I can keep it up like I have been doing. I love the low carb lifestyle, because the food tastes good and I love the quality of these foods. I just don't think I can be so restrictive anymore.

I need my sanity back, and to not make enemies with my family and the love of my life. I just think 50g instead of 15-20g seems to be more manageable with my lifestyle.

I love you all and will support your journeys no matter what. I just need to change my path a little bit.

You definitely have to do what's right for you. If you need more carbs for your body, then do it. Good luck to you 😀.

I want to eat ALL the veggies (except potatoes because eww) and now just a select few. That's basically my reasoning.

I can identify with your conundrum. I also enjoy keto type foods and seldom break the regimen. I do however eat allot of vegetables and frequently make them in a form that mimic other foods, like mashed cauliflower with butter and perhaps cheese. Eating high volumes of vegetable makes the 20 gram target very challenging so I make concessions. It is not just to satisfy cravings but also to ensure that I get the right nutrients. Most days I stay around 20 grams of net carbs but if I go over once in a while I don't fuss. The calorie count on veggies is very low and if you are going to add carbs the non starchy veggies are my food of choice. You will find the right balance for you.

What Jennifer and Patty said before. Don't slave yourself to something specific if it doesn't work for you in some ways. Take the CONCEPT and mold it into what you can sustain over the long hall. I myself have taken concepts from Keto, CICO, IF as well as others and shaped something that fits my life and how it seems my body works. Always be open to adjusting. Keep in mind its not about following a diet but changing lifestyle so day to day choices led you in the direction you want with minimal stress and such.

You also have to consider what happens to you and your weight once your “magic number” has been achieved. Consider whether this is a food program you can live with for the rest of your life or if this format may be too restrictive. Please take a look at some more traditional forms of lifestyle change approaches that allow for LOWER carbohydrates, healthier fats, good solid proteins, eating 3 meals a day, that still allow you to be human and have a small piece of cake, a piece of pizza without feeling quilt ridden. IT CAN BE DONE— I have helped people do this multiple times, SUCCESSFULLY For the last 30+ years. YOU, on the other hand, are the key player and have to assume responsibility for your own success. Do some reading, don’t make yourself crazy. The other element to this is exercise. I’m not talking body building, but walking, simple weights at home, you don’t have to join a gym. You can do this at home if you want. Research some other options that might add quality to your life that you can actually LIVE with. Good luck Pokeybean.

I also kept in mind doing this that I'm struggling to get to my minimum calories, even WITH adding butter or oil to my recipes. I'm just afraid I'm going to come to a standstill with my weight loss and that I'm going to get a lot of "I told you so" comments. I have lost weight with just doing low carb before, but at the same time I wanted to do this so I could be accountable for my own actions. I still want to. I'm just struggling a bit.

I'm even having doubts about getting off keto completely at all. I'm so used to it. Maybe relax my measuring?

Pokey— if you achieved your goal weight tomorrow, Could you maintain what you are doing in order to avoid regaining weight— a modified version? Would the modified version, if there is such a thing, allow some flexibility so that you can share family events and not obsess over your diet so much that it creates a rift with your boyfriend?

It's hard, like a part-time job to keep up the measuring. No matter what control system you use, there has to be some way to figure out whether you are going in the direction that you want. There is no magic bullet and you really have to figure it out for yourself unfortunately. You want a "normal" life, and you have to figure out strategies that will get you there. I was doing 60 grams of each fat, carb, and protein but I was eating too much bread. My best weight loss time was 20 grams fat, 100 grams each of carbs and protein, but no rice, no potato, no bread, nothing fried. Lots of vegetables. Nothing with added sugar, no sodas, no juices. Right now I am doing the 10-day detox from Dr. Ox show, and then I will probably go back to the macros that worked for me. Keto is not magic. If you are not happy, what is the point? When I go out I have two strategies: one is, I eat half of my dinner and then take the leftovers and measure them when I get home. and the second is I have some things that I know are always going to be good calorie count and tasty which is a big salad with either shrimp or steak. Keto isn't a cure all and if you don't have diabetes or other condition affected by keto then calorie counting in one way is as good as another. I agree with Kenna Morton - don't make yourself crazy! Best of luck figuring it out!

If you don't like your eating plan, you don't have to keep your eating plan. I'm not locked into supporting any particular strategy, every diet can be successful if properly followed.

I was strict keto and lost 135 lbs but am also hypoglycemic/typeII diabetic insulin resistant. That is a condition that this diet is perfectly set up for. LOL After my initial high poundage lost I’ve increased my carbs multiple times to try maintaining the weight and to see at what level I can still lose, but more gradually and still keep my bloid sugars under control. 🤷🏻‍♀️What you’re contemplating is very doable! LOL Just try to keep those carbs as very complex high fiber carbs. On good days I can eat 100-150g of carbs but only about 50-70 of them are non fiber. 💁🏻‍♀️ Right now I’m dealing with some medicine changes that are throwing me for a loop. But Your plan should work for you and your life Hon! 🙋🏻

You need to adjust to a WOE that you can feel happy with and one that works for you !!!! Even a small drop is better than no drop at all .. I use to bring my own food to family gatherings, made my life easier and theirs to .Good luck on what ever WOE you choose...

The measuring gets easier. I remember the same feelings when our son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We had to measure the carbs in everything in order to calculate his insulin dose. Too little insulin and here could lose his legs or go blind. Too much and he could go into a comma. No pressure. After a while though you could look at a plate of food and count up all the carbs in your head. He's 22 now and has been type 1 for 18 years. Sometimes I wish he'd be a little more obsessive about counting his carbs.

@ seankelly, I hear you Sean! We’ve all been around diabetics that we wish were more strict with themselves! Unfortunately the effects if being just a little bit off all the time aren’t immediately apparent, they are cumulative and devastating to suffer. Most type I’s get it as an autoimmune as a kid and don’t realize that it’s setting them up for worse if they don’t keep strict control. I wish you luck in beating it into your son’s head before he starts suffering the inevitable consequences of his choices. 🤷🏻‍♀️
