barbara9999's Journal, 07 June 2020

I have gained most of my weight back because of this shut in period (pandemic) and had blood work done last week that shows an increase in the Alc and for the first time in my life elevated cholesterol. So I have to diet again but this time I can not do keto because of the cholesterol and have to put away all the butter, bacon, sour cream, mayo, cheese, cream. and I have to say over the last few months I have been doing alot of cooking and baking and eating every bit of it and loving it. To think that only 4 months ago I put on at least 20 lbs. so now I have to find a diet that is both diabetic and lower cholesterol. that's what I am searching for now.

I think a lot of us are in the same boat from being shut in. My healthy habits disappeared, and healthy foods became harder to obtain. I got really lazy and put on 20lbs. You're not alone!

My cholesterol is high and I am t2. My Dr has me on keto. I've been off my meds for 3 weeks now. Did your dr say no keto? Lock out dietdoctor website... They address high cholesterol and reversing t2 diabetes.

I went up 15 but have since drop ten of it off during this covid. I am looking also into healthier fats. I might try some almond butter. Good Luck to you.

Dried beans and legumes have a way of helping with cholesterol and stabilization of A1C. I know that sound boring. There are many types and many cuisines have have lots of interesting and delicious ways of cooking them. They are incredibly filling as well as nutritious and fit well into weight loss.

Google is a great way to find foods to eat for your needs. They have diabetic, they have Mediterranean, they have keto, they have everything. Just asked and you will find.

I am so surprised and gratified by all these comments. thank you very much. as for your beans, I love them. but they are very fattening. I was used to restricting them because I had been on keto before. as for my cholesterol, the blood work says that is elevated. I think it's because of all of that I was taking on keto. I haven't gotten to a nutritionist or a doctor about it, but it's just common sense that all of the fact that I was eating butter etcetera bacon, well you know that causes the cholesterol. I'm doing my research now to try to have a better organized diet everyday that includes the diabetes control and also the cholesterol.

I went to Trader Joe's yesterday afternoon and got Earth balance, so no butter, and almond crunchy butter, to put on toast, Aldis has a very good whole wheat bread that is only 35 calories per slice.

What Juls2211 said! I’m no longer on cholesterol meds due to low carb diet also. But, to each their own. Even with with a walker you travel world wide! You’re doing just fine!!! You GO! 😇👍👌

Look into the balanced diet approach on the app. Restrict calories and balance eating to get all necessary nutrients. You can lower carbs without upping the fat content. My doctor will not allow me to do keto.

I really am admit about the fact that diet is a bad word. change your eating habits and you will never have a real weight problem. When we change our attitude towards food you can change the way yoir brain thinks about food. I have learned in the past 3 years dealing with EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) as a result of being a lifetime type 1 diabetic and dealing with Lupus for those 3 years that when food becomes a means to live and not to live to eat, you have a much easier way to loosing those extra few lbs. For me right now not having the availability to exercise for 2 months put on 12 extra lbs and I decided I needed to get to my ultimate weight as we get older we need less food but we need healthier foods

I’m not diabetic but I subscribe to a Magazine called Diabetic Living. I’m any good recipes. Also the internet has many, many sites that are geared not only to diabetic cooking but the recipes are great and the educational component is really good as well.

Ravenseyes1959– I have worked with many people on their weight loss journeys. The very first thing I do is remove the word “diet” from their vocabulary. It has a connotation of a short term situation that ends when goal weight is achieved. It is a lifestyle change for the long haul. That is why it is so important to develop a way of eating that does not include deprivation and guilt but encourages healthy eating most of the time and less healthy eating once in a while. Portion control and moderation successfully works even for T2 diabetics
