eisus123's Journal, 07 December 2019

Good morning everyone! I am new, just started yesterday. Over the last two years I have gained 40 pounds and I am disgusted with myself. I came across this app and figured why wait. I need to get myself in control of my body again. I used to work out everyday, but every since my car accident, I have only gone to the gym twice. I have a question for you. What type of eating program are most following? Low calorie or low carb? Keto? I have been drinking wine after work, but I believe that’s where my extra pounds came from so I am going to cut down and stop that habit except for special occasions. Does anyone have any ideas that would help me? Possibly someone who is in the same situation? Thank you.

Hi. I've "dieted" my whole life from weight watchers to Atkins, Medifast, nutrisystem, slim fast, Jenny Craig, pills... Finally finally finally found what works for me. I count calories and I workout. I eat 2000 calories of whatever I want, aiming for more protein but nothing is off limits. Nothing! Easy to stick to a way of eating when you can eat what you want in moderation. I know longer feel bad for not eating skinless chicken breasts and broccoli. I don't feel bad having McDonald's. I fit it in to my 2000 calories a day. I lift weights every day for an hour and I love it. I only miss a few times a month because I so enjoy it. Only regret is not discovering this for 44 years. Best of luck to you!❤️

Thank you for the encouragement! I appreciate it. I too, have struggled with my weight all my life, even to the point of starving myself and binging and purging. I want to do this healthy now. I must because I don’t want to die or get sick. I feel depressed about myself and I just feel uncomfortable with the extra pounds and tight clothes. People that are close to me say that they don’t notice, but how can they not? I am going to do this once and for all! For me! Again, thank you for the encouragement!

Welcome eisus123. You will find good advise and most of all, ENCOURAGEMENT. You will see many people here that have many ways of eating. high carb, low carb. for me personally, I wasn't physically able to hit the gym and do weights or high impact aerobics. my back is fused with artificial discs, my chest is wired and I'm almost 60yrs young. I needed to loose 60lbs. So, my choice was strict Keto 80 15 20 on my macros. I'm currently down 43lbs with 17 to go. when I get there. I will add fresh fruits and other complex carbs plus more protein. i will continue water aerobics, light weights and walking. it all depends on your personal capabilities and preferences. Congratulations on doing something for you! Best wishes and hope to keep seeing you here👍

Welcome eisus. I understand that extra weight is hard to live with. I was once 173 pounds and it felt so unnatural. People have different constitutions and one persons balance will be much different than another's. I hope you find yours, but until then feel free to connect and ask any questions you may have regarding this matter 💜

*I apologize, that was a typo. I was once 163, not 173

Welcome! Like everyone has said so far, everyone on here has something different that works best for them. Personally, when I cut out added sugar and soda from my diet that is where I saw the greatest change. Right now this app just helps me keep in mind what I'm putting into my body and keeps me mindful not to eat over my personal limit. You can do it!

I am counting calories and eating less than I burn (“CICO” = calories in < calories out). Choosing meals with high volume and satiety but low calories. I have cut out all processed sugar. I had also mostly cut out grains and starchy vegetables except a couple of bowls of cereal last month and yesterday when I went off the deep end. Routine is my friend. I need to get back on track today. Best of luck. Welcome to FatSecret!

Welcome!! Personally I dont cut anything out - I wouldn't be able to sustain it. I just make sure to weigh/measure/count EVERYTHING so I can keep it in check! Hope you enjoy the community here, i've loved it.
