HCB's Journal, 18 December 2012

I am completely out of my routine this week as I am participating in jury duty - fortunately they provide a refrigerator and microwave in the jury room, so I can bring lunch. My schedule is off though, and I cannot drink all my water as usual because we have limited breaks.

I also feel mildly irritated because I am self-employed and will lose a substantial amount of income while doing my civic duty! It is a two week commitment where I live - unless you end up on a case that goes longer!

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

That would irritate me too unless I was in need of a jury. Which hopefully, I never will.

That's so crazy that they can take you away from your livelihood for at least two weeks! Sorry about that, hope you at least get an interesting short case..

I did Jury Duty once, and heard someone's momma screaming "Oh lord have mercy, not my baby!" down the hallway. Supposedly that outburst caused us all to be released, shortly after, but I think he took a plea after seeing himself on video. Anyway, hang in there and do your routine the best you can.

You will be back on routine once your jury duty is done. Losing wages in today's economy does not seem right though. Good luck and I am sending positive thoughts that it is a quick trial.

Ah that really stinks about losing all that work time being self employed. Its much less of a big deal if your employer still pays you. Hopefully yours doesn't go beyond 2 weeks!

What they said ...Ugh!! You lose income AND are denied fluids to fulfill a Civic duty. Something is screwed up with that system.

That rots! I hope it is quick and painless for you!

I felt like around here being self-employed and losing your livelihood was grounds for beig dismissed from duty? Maybe that's just what people think. FUNNY STORY! I never got jury duty summons....but my false identity created for my job did!!! The attorney's had to ring up the judge and explain why the fake person couldn't show up!

They do pay you right? Or is it just a token amount like we have here? 2 weeks - that really blows. I have a bad memory of jury duty but it was the straw that broke the camels back on my weight loss. I was 245 lbs. or so and was walking through the city to the courthouse when I sprained my ankle so badly that I had to lean on a building. Went to doc next day and his last words to me were - "just don't gain anymore weight". He didn't say lose weight but for whatever reason those words struck me to start paying attention. I'm thinking of you and praying you don't get chosen.

Jess.... false identity for job? I won't ask you to be specific unless you just want to but have to say 'way cool'. MY job always made ME want to go into the Witness Protection Program. Your FI sounds so much better :-) A long long time ago I filled out a questionnaire in my cat's name and HE got an American Express card! Everyone's just a number, huh ~

yeah...false identity for internet cigarette stings. fake bank account, credit card, PO box, driver's license, whole nine yards!

Supercool. Maybe you could get HCB out of jury duty!

If TV is to be believed all you have to do is show a strong prejeduce in the case and they will dismiss you. Go in there and say I know he's guilty.

I thank you for doing your civic duty. The only time I ever served I felt good after - I helped get a dangerous man off the streets!

Well - if I am dimissed form THIS panel, they make us go back to the jury pool to be assigned to another panel. No real escape...
