Day 6 of a planned 11 day fast

I'm past the halfway mark of my fast. All the discomfort to adjusting to ketosis is done. Energy is stable, and hunger is non-existent (the desire for food never goes away).

Today I plan to increase my normal 5 mile run to 7 miles. I also plan to work out with weights.

Advantages of day 5+ of a fast:

1) You can get on the scale multiple times a day and watch it go down each time.
2) You wakeup and go about your day without the need to even drink a cup of coffee
3) You save a ton of money because you're not buying any food.

Dis-Advantages of day 5+ of a fast:

1) You have to constantly use mouthwash because your breath smells bad and you have to use deodorant multiple times a day because your increased sensitivity to smell makes you sensitive to the smell of your own perspiration (and of others).
2) You have to plan your life around being near a bathroom at least every 2 hours.
3) Food is like sex, you don't have to have it, but you desire it.

If I may chime in, from what I have read, one should stop eating 3 hours before bed. I don’t recall the exact rationale so I won’t try justify. Course, if he doesn’t go to bed until 1 AM, then you’re golden! 😁

,Adefwebserver, have you had your fasting insulin checked or had your HOMA-IR calculated? I do mostly 18:6 and 19:5 (sometimes 20:4) IF, so the time i begin to eat may vary slightly, but i don't eat after 7pm. i am severely insulin resistant. I am not sure people who have the typical amount of insulin can fully appreciate the depth of the "hunger" that occurs when someone who is very insulin resistant eats several carbs. There would be little sleep for me if i were to eat a bunch of fruit or other carbs and then start my fast. I wouldn't last 8 hours if it were an all carb/all fruit meal. If it were carb heavy but also had protein and fat and I got totally full, i might last 10 hours tops.

That’s been busted on multiple studies and not true, in fact it’s the opposite. The later you eat the more benefits it gives you, you burn calories in your sleep and you absorb what you recently eaten, that’s why most bodybuilders eat around 6 meals a day and the biggest is at the end of the day with the most protein and carbs, those two marcos will be purely absorbed into the body. Thus giving the muscles what they need in order to grow. The 6 meals a day thing is for them to be able to eat a lot of food, these bodybuilders don’t really about fat and lean bulking, so they don’t get to use their storages, instead they burn off the food calories

Carbs aren’t the enemy, it’s the bad carbs that make you gain fat, aka added sugars, and common sense the other candies and junk foods. So many people are going vegan because they think it’s just the veggies that give them those fat burning carbs, but it’s not, you could eat your crackers without added sugars and not spike your insulin and not cause you to lose fat. You need to look for something for the long run, not fads (shortterm diets)

That's actually not true, at least not for everyone, and especially not for those with a high degree of insulin resistance.

@cjodyssey - I did get full blood work done 9 months ago and they said I was fine. I think my 'carb hunger' is mostly mental. However, the result is still the same :)

Fasting insulin isn't a standard blood test. My blood glucose was always within normal range but that was because my insulin was so high. But my doctor, suspecting i had pcos, fortunately ordered the additional blood draw. If you have a copy of your test results, you might check to see what your numbers are. If you don't have a copy you can probably ask your doctor's office for one. They may even have a patient portal with your results online. Have a wonderful day!
