As I was standing in the shower this morning I had a thought. I want my 2009 to be about acomplishments. I've been very lucky in my life in that I've had good accomplishments in my work life...but I want 2009 to be about accomplishing things just for ME. Things that my weight has always kept me from doing. So here is a partial list of things I want to accomplish in 2009.

1. Walk a half-marathon (13 miles)
2. Sky Dive (must be below 250 pounds to do this)
3. Go out dancing all night (I've never had the stamina for that)
4. Go white water rafting
5. Meet and maintain my goal weight
6. To actually wear my high heels out (with my weight I usually go comfortable rather than fashionable when it comes to shoes.)
7. more to come

So to get started on #1 I joined a 24 hour gym on Friday (and has the added bonus of helping with #5). I've got to get going if I'm going to walk in the half-marathon (13 miles) this coming May.

My training schedule requires that I be able to walk 3 miles in 30 to 40 minutes before I start their plan.

I got a slow start this morning. It took me 30 minutes to walk 1 mile, but then I was able to do the second 2 miles in 30 minutes. So I picked the pace up quite a bit for the last 2 miles. It was tough and I was huffing when I got done. I'm no where close to being ready to keep that pace for 13 miles but it's a start. :) I'll go back on Wednesday to do it again. I'm trying to do 3 miles on M/W/F until Feb 15. Beginning on the 15th I will go M/W/Th/S with the distances starting at 3 and increasing to 13 over 10 weeks. At the end of all of this, I'd like to be able to walk the 13 miles in 3 1/2 hours ... that is roughly 1 mile every 15 minutes. The trick is going to be maintaining the pace and finding some decent shoes :)

I'm going into this weekend siked. I'm not even sure why....just in a good mood I guess. So, Happy Friday everyone!

I always try to cook something I wouldn't normally do on Saturday and Sunday and this weekend it will be crab cakes. I found crab meat on sale at Trader Joe's yesterday and I've already adapted my recipe so it is low carb. Then on Sunday, I'm going to use the leftovers and make an Eastern Eggs Benedict for breakfast. (replace the English muffin with a crab cake). Yum!

Next week may prove challenging. My Director will be visiting my office which could mean eating out more than normal. I think I can talk her into Buffalo Wild Wings and if so, I'll be just fine. I think I could eat hot wings every day of the week. Gotta love spicy garlic.

A while back I posted a journal entry that I had been asked to participate in a half-marathon (walking not running). My struggle has been the weather here in the Midwest...too cold to walk outside. I've been a bit conflicted because it would mean possibly joining a second gym. I have a Curves membership but they don't have treadmills. But, the local 24 hour gym is running a special for $19.99 a month with unlimited access (12month contract, no enrollment fee). That's not bad at all and I think it would be worth it. I think I'll give them a call and see about going in for a visit. I'm not mentally (or physically for that matter) ready for a 'meat market' type gym, but I don't think this place is like that. Boy I hope ;)

UPDATE: Friday night I did enroll at the local 24 hour fitness center. I'm looking forward to getting started soon.

Saturday's crab cakes turned out AWESOME! The whole family loved them and I have enough left over for Easter Eggs Benedict tomorrow. Yeah.
