110 days til Disney!
So the author of Ultrametabolism is Dr. Mark Hyman (here you go Cookie!)

I'm in the Preparation week, where I have to start cutting out EVERYTHING!!! :) I'm just kidding, sort of. The point of the first few weeks is to cut out all foods that could potentially be causing an allergy or resistance of some kind. So no caffeine or sugar(eeeeekkkkkk!!), no gluten, eggs, dairy, etc. This is going to be really hard at first as I am such a highly digestible carb addict!! but I think it could also be very beneficial as my body reacts very funny to a lot of things. I have ridiculously sensitive skin, caffeine makes me sleepy but sleeping pills make me hyper, and any sort of mood relaxant or anti-depression medication makes me extremely paranoid.

So if my body can react that badly to that stuff maybe there is a food allergy hiding somewhere. If not you add these things back slowly so it's not like I'm going without them forever.

My positive thing today is that I'm very confident that if I stick closely to this new eating plan, I will find out something useful about my body!

So I've started this book "Ultrametabolism" (can't remember the author, will look when I get home. And for the first time in a long time, something diet makes sense to me! I've always had these bad feelings about the instructions for all these diets, even weight watchers which doesn't tell you what you can and can't eat, and now I know why.

Basically it's eating 'real' food - stuff that hasn't been processed to death and chemically altered etc. Well duh. I think we all know that prepackaged food is crap. But this book just kind of breaks down all the ideas in a way that is easy and appealing to follow, giving interesting historical examples etc. The catch phrase is "if it comes with a label don't eat it!" and uses the example "when did you ever buy a fresh peach with a nutritional lable on it?"

I am definitely going to research the options in my community for less processed items - cost, availability, etc. Not that I will give up all yummy stuff, but I figure that the more back to nature the better for me, at least to try!

There are so many people now allergic to these chemicals that are in stuff, and all the worry about trans fats and hidden additives. And yet most European countries (France, Spain for eg.) have way lower heart risks and obesity issues etc, even though they tend to eat a fattier diet. But it's all fresh and real and wholesome! Plus they relish their food and so take the time to feel satisfied and so eat less. Wow, what a concept! Everything here is so rushed and about multi-tasking!

Sorry this is a little disjointed, I've had a major bug today and am still a bit out of sorts!

I'm really frustrated actually - for my 50 lb. Challenge this means I have lost 2 lbs. from last week, which is totally respectable (I think). But in all honesty, I have been hovering here for the last 2 1/2 weeks (other than right after the wedding weekend). Up and down, up and down, just a pound or so, staying right where I am. The part that is very frustrating is that I've been here before - on Weight Watchers, (or even on Atkins once) lose a big amount the first week, and then nothing. I exercised and ate right for 11 weeks the last time, putting in a legitimate effort and not just telling myself I was, and nothing.

But this time I'm going to do something about it. First of all I have to go to my doctor anyway since I have a cut that maybe should have had stitches a month ago and isn't healing right. So I'm going to talk to her. Then I'm going to steal Turbo Jam and Biggest Loser workout DVD's from Mom and seriously up my intensity. Like seriously - biggest loser style ie sweating buckets and throwing up etc. I've been sweating and breathing hard during my workouts so far, but maybe it's not enough. I'm obviously very resistant to losing, and maybe that's what I need.

Probably not going to be a lot of fun for my husband though!!!
