I'm embarking on a couple of new things. I begin meeting with a Personal Trainer for 1-2 sessions a week tomorrow. I am extremely excited about this prospect. I had a complimentary session with the trainer to make sure he would be a good person for me to work with, and I feel that we are a very good fit. One of my biggest goals is to reduce my Body Fat Percentage (BFP) by about 10%. I am currently at approximately 34%, and would love to be back to 25%, where I spent most of my teenage years. I am working on moving past a fixation on the number on the scale, in favor of tackling my BFP. I'd love to get into size 8 jeans, and just be more fit overall. Once I can truly come to terms with the number on the scale, I know I will be able to succeed.

I had to begin taking insulin to better control my Type 2 Diabetes last month. I have no interest in remaining insulin dependent, so I am taking a low carb approach to weight loss for the first time. I have always counted calories, but never net carbs, so I imagine that this may be a challenge for me. I have not eaten any fast food (defined by having a drive-thru or being a Subway) since mid-December. I have made the resolution to allow myself 12 visits to fast food places over the course of the entire year, and I'd really love to never use these 12 visits. Inevitably, there will come a day I have to cash one in, but I'm going to work to avoid it.

A weird issue I'm currently dealing with is not having an appetite. I'm having to force myself to eat, which means I'm not really snacking, but at the same time, I just won't eat if I don't feel hungry. This has led me to have some really low calorie days. I'm hoping to incorporate things like Atkins Shakes to help supplement what I am eating. One of my biggest issues is that I have an allergy to soy, especially soybean oil and soy protein. This has led me to investigate the Paleo Diet craze, and to modify it to suit my needs. I am working very hard to adopt many of the principles and ideas of this diet into my daily life.

I run my first 5K of the season on March 2nd, and cannot wait. I'm ready for running season to start again.
