I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my blood sugar levels were getting out of hand. I am striving for a whole lifestyle change. I'm doing my best to eat healthier and have cut out most wheat based products in exchange for gluten free choices. The doctor told me to eat 1500 calories a day and no more than 200 carbs a day, but I have found that I don't lose any weight eating that many calories and the blood glucose still runs high with that many carbs. I seem to lose weight eating between 1200-1300 calories a day and no more than 150 carbs a day. My weight has been a very real battle for me all of my life since my teen years. It's hard for me to fight cravings for things like cake and cookies and really cheesy fatty foods. But, on a lighter note I have been doing well for the past 3 weeks choosing healthier alternatives. I'm not depriving myself of my favorite things...just tweeking the recipes to use healthier ingredients and eating smaller portions...my big 10" dinner plate is now a 6" plate. I still have a little trouble drinking enough water. I prefer herbal teas. I have been searching the internet for healthy natural treatments for type 2 diabetes and discovered that chromium picolonate & American ginseng are doing wonders in bringing my blood glucose numbers down. I'm walking 3-4 days a week at least a brisk mile...hoping to increase that as I lose weight. I was sedentary for such a long time it takes a little time to get back into the groove!
