LIFE! Jeez!

I lost my job at Charles Schwab (contractor position) due to the project we were working on ending. Luckily, I was a top performer and landed an even higher paying job at another Schwab location. However, my old schedule allowed me to go to the gym late night with no one there. This new position is a M-F daytime shift, so I get off at 4, gym = crowded. With my social anxiety I avoided going because I didn't think I could handle the stress and anxiety of showing up with everyone else.

I made a huge change in my life recently and quit smoking (green). It has been about a month now and my life has dramatically improved. Clearer thoughts, no wheezing/asthmatic symptoms, higher energy levels, more balanced emotional response, able to communicate on a higher level, the list goes on. Incidentally and fortunately, this motivated me to get back into the gym, where my girlfriend and I are now going every day after work. I am determined to be the best person I can be, because I know I am capable of it. Plus, the (green) was a huge motivation-killer, even though I swore it wasn't. So funny the things you come to realize when you stop doing something that makes you NOT sober, daily, for over 4 years straight.

Lots of positive things on the horizon, and I can't wait to drop all this weight and reveal the badass that has been inside me all along.

Woop! First weigh in of 250 was based of a round estimate and a fully clothed weigh in on a scale at work that is not my personal home scale. I believe I have lost about 4-5 pounds so far? Now that I have a scale at home it will be easier to track, and more accurate.

My second week of going to the gym 3 days a week T/W/Th! I am not hating the gym and actually enjoy the time I spend there knowing I am making decisions to better my current and future health.

My first goal is to get in 'gym shape' or be able to work out at a level I think a normal person should be able to.

I am also watching what I am eating, not necessarily tracking every single thing in FS' food log. I eat pretty good now that the fresh n easy by my house is now open 24/7! No excuse not to have good food/snacks anymore! I do work 2nd shift so eating healthy is tougher by default.

According to my weight, it takes about +/- 3000 calories just to make it through a day. I know I am not eating that much, based on my first few food logs which are typical days for me. So that means I'm already at a calorie deficit and along with working out, means losing more weight quicker, hopefully :)

2 days in a row into going to the gym, A record for me ;p (I've never been a member). My wonderful girlfriend took me as a guest a few times and I finally decided to join a few days ago. I work 2nd shift M-F and get out at 11:30pm. I get to the gym around midnight and stay for an hour (for now).

The first challenge I face is building the HABIT of keeping up going to the gym, my goal being 5 days a week with 3 days of weight training M/W/F (back/bi, legs, chest/tri). Consistency over a long period of the time is the key to losing this weight for me. That and focusing on what fuel I'm putting in my body, but one thing at a time.

I suffer from ADD/distractability and have a hard time creating new healthy habits for myself. Having a girlfriend who is also interested in personal fitness/health is empowering and inspiring. Also joining a site such as FS will help me as I feel obligated to update what my progress is; to track how I am doing and where I've been, where I am going.

Eventually I would like to be 180 (currently 250), but that is an ideal goal with plenty of muscle making that weight up. My body frame is wide shoulders, stocky, like if I wanted to be an extreme muscle head, it would allow me to do that.

If I can hit 1-2 lb loss a week average, I have no qualms waiting for the weight to melt off. Strength training at the same time will also increase muscle mass (weight), but will burn more calories over a longer period of time and increase metabolism.

Here's to healthy habits and keeping them! Lifestyle changes are difficult but if you keep invisioning your ideal self and put positive thoughts and energy towards it, it will happen.
