I am 30 years old, married with two step children. I work full time and spend about 1.5hrs commuting daily during the week. I cook everyday and plan my meals ahead so they are healthy for me and still filling for the teenagers.

I believe that the secret to weight loss is sweat. That and planning ahead. When I started this journey I was very commited to still leading a normal life. I am going to have a slice of cake and my step children's birthday, and I am going to eat pie at Christmas. Since none of these events are surprises I can increase my activity and decrease my food intake the day before and the day after to compensate.

I also have a bizzare food allergy that makes it difficult for me to eat alot of raw food, especially produce. Most of my vegetables need be cooked so I try to incorporate them into my meals instead of snacks.

Q & A
Okay, if fat takes up more space than muscle than by that logic a piece of fat with the same physical dimensions as a piece of muscle will weigh less.

Sodium Intake
It might be helpful to go through your food diary and highlight the foods that are contributing to your sodium intake. Then its a matter of deciding how to fix it, whether its just avoiding those foods or preparing them differently.

New member. need some tips on not eating at night
This isnt always realistic for everyone, but when I get really bad snack cravings in the evening I just go to bed earlier. Getting up early to work out helps because by 9pm Im ready for bed anyway.

Im not sure how to prevent sugar cravings. I cope with mine by keeping 70% dark chocolate squares in the house. About 2 or 3 squares (17g) is 90 calories and if you savor them it will keep you occupied for 10 to 15 minutes.

Recommended Intake Question
This is what I do. Skip the RDI calculator. Go to your exercise diary first thing in the morning before you punch in any activities and make a note of how many calories you burn in a day while at rest and sleeping. Use that number and create a deficit using diet and exercise.

Body cleansing
I read the book "Clean" by Dr Alejandro Junger. I was drawn to it because it was supposed to help with seasonal allergies (and I did see some results there). It also claimed to be able to help with depression. I liked it because you were still able to eat one solid food meal a day but the down side is that is is a four week process.

I would recommend it to anyone who has digestive issues. There are a lot of foods on the do not eat list, but once you wrap your head around it its not as restrictive as it first appears.
