I have previously had gastric bypass and I am creeping back up in the pounds. I obviously didn't treat it as the life change it was supposed to be 5 years ago. Now, as I am approaching 40 and I still don't want to end up like my mother (350lbs and sedentary in retirement).

LOL!!! I can totally sympathize but in a different way. My husband, when he puts his mind to weight loss, has lost 14 lbs in a week just quitting soda. It's disgusting. My only advantage is that I have greater will power than either of them right now because I have been at it for a week and already feel better. I may not see much weight lost but, I can tell eating healthier is making a difference. That is one thing I would tell you to really pay attention to. I used to have a horrible overfull, bloated feeling (even when I was hungry). That is gone. I may not look thinner but I feel it. I also notice that I am processing things better. More regularity. Get in tune with your body and celebrate small improvements that are not shown in numbers on the scale.

I agree with you about everyone around you being thin. At work in a very small office I have only two coworkers. One is thin as a rail and runs marathons. The other has never struggled with weight until now in her late forties she has gained 15 pounds.

I did have some success at home this week. My husband and daughter got tired of watching me calculate every last calorie. So they forced me to get on the scale. I only lost another half pound but with them seeing my results, they have jumped on with me. We now have a contest underway underway. The one who loses the most percentage in body weight by Thanksgiving Day (Nov 24th) Wins that amount in cash. For my daughter it's about the money. She's only 10. For my husband and I it's bragging rights.

I just joined for the same reason Gremity! I had lost 80lbs from weightloss surgery 5 years ago and my scale was creeping back up and I felt terrible. I have come to the realization that I need to change my life. I need to stop eating processed junk and get off my posterior! I started 8 days ago and I have lost nearly 5 lbs (2kg).

I am NOT going to allow myself to get back to the level I was when I needed surgery. Feel free to let me know if you want to team up and hold each other accountable for our diets and activities.
