In the month or so that I heve been on FatSecret, I have learned is that while we might be taking different dietary 'roads', we are all on the same journey towards a healthier weight. The journey is long, so it is great to have company along the way.
I have also realized that weight management is not a sprint, it is an endurance race. I will encounter obstacles, but I am determined to overcome them. I might fall at times, but I will not stay down. Once I keep moving forward, one step at a time, I will reach my goal of being a healthier, fitter and significantly lighter me.
My mantra for this week is:
"Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present."
My affirmation for each day is:
❀ I will make today the best that I can make it.
❀ I will be kind to my body by feeding it the nutrition that it needs to be at optimum health.
❀ I will be kind to my mind by focusing on the positive steps that I am making towards my goals.
❀ I will be kind to my spirit by identifying at least one blessing in my life today.

Tonight I decided to re-start my diet, and break down my ultimate goal into smaller, more manageable steps. Then I realized that I entered the wrong starting weight, so I have to restart it, again! Anyway, it now reflects my correct current weight of 246 lbs and my target weight of 220 pounds which I intend to achieve on or before December of this year. That will take care of the weight I gained while having my son. After that I will deal with the 20 pounds that I gained after having my daughter. Then I will work on going wayyyyyy back to my high-school weight. All it will take is a pound per week for the next 18 to 24 months. I can do this!

Does the human body make its own protein?
Today I was chatting with a colleague who insisted that I need to consume more protein or I will lose muscle and make myself ill. She had observed that my lunch usually consists of a huge salad plus a little beans or lentils. I asked her what I should eat, and she recommended lean beef, poultry, etc (ugh! I haven't eaten flesh in over 20 years). I asked her whether cows lose muscle because all they eat is grass. I was joking, but it got me to thinking. Do humans make protein the way cows obviously do?

I am slowly working my self into a new way of eating. Giving up on sugary foods not too hard. My present battle is to almost eliminate carbs, particularly wheat. That is a far bigger challenge than reducing my total calories. It is a long hard road, but I'm gonna get there.

My soon-to-be-8-years-old daughter decided that she wanted to make the family pancakes for breakfast. She did it from scratch. How could I refuse? I limited myself to two pancakes with one spoonful of grape jelly.
Cost in calories=230 cal.
Expression of pride and joy on my daughter's face=Priceless
