I have been fasting for 37 hours now.

I really never thought I could or would be able to fast -- or even want to -- but after listening through all the various books about how our weight and health problems are due to the carbs, then the fat, then specific nutrients, and all the various permutations and combinations, I got to thinking they are all right. It is food. Too much food, too often and I came across fasting.

Seems fasting is not a new idea, but it is a very foreign and threatening idea to a consumer society that revolves around growing food, transporting and selling food, preparation, serving food and eating. Some very large and profitable industries are built on all food all the time.

Apparently fasting (within reason) is safe and beneficial for most people. Every day people all over the world are fasting. People have fasted as long as there have been people and the benefits have been known for at least that long. Some do it intentionally, for religious or health reasons, and many do it because they have no choice.

At any rate, my first real attempt has been enlightening. My weight dropped four pounds in two days. This morning, my blood pressure is 118/74 and glucose is 5.4 (98) but my pulse is 50, a bit lower than usual. I feel pretty normal.

I found some good ideas at https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/, but basically, fasting is a do-it-yourself solution. It's not about doing anything, or buying anything. Au contraire. Instead of shopping and spending money, you save that time and effort, and you can go as long as you feel good and stop when you like. Apparently even a twelve-hour fast between supper and breakfast has measurable beneficial effects.

Will I keep this up today, or eat something soon? I have not decided. Will I do a fast again? Good question. Probably.
