Can't exercise very much
I dropped a large, full bottle of shampoo on the top of my right foot. The doctor had x-rays, so we know it isn't broken, but it is swollen, sore, and very uncomfortable. He asked me to do RICE - rest, ice, compress, elevate. There is NO WAY I am putting ice on my foot. Too cold. So the most I can do is walk about 7 - 8 minuted twice a day. Otherwise it hurts too much.

Emotional Eating
My brother-in-law passed away last week after a short illness. We waited until his sister and BIL could come. Today we scattered his ashes, and sat down together to remember him. He had been married to my sister for 42 years. I thought of him as my brother as well as her husband. I am having a hard time with this. For the past week I have been desperate for comfort, so comfort food. I have gained several pounds. My husband thinks I should let myself get what comfort I can from food. I don't seem to be strong enough to deny myself.

strange nutritional info amounts
I am somewhat annoyed with the nutritional information on packages and cans. Here's an example -

serving size xyz grams
servings per container 3.5

who in the heck is going to save that .5 serving for another day, rather than eating it? Why don't they have more realistic, easy to understand information?

I prefer volume info, as in

can = 2 cups
serving = 1/2 cup

makes it easier to figure.

ok, rant over.

I am new to fatsecret, but very impressed already with how easy it is to use.

I am 72, 5'7", female, retired, a cancer survivor. I went from being a fit, active person with several horses, to sitting on the couch hoping the chemo wouldn't make me so tired all the time. Then I had a stem cell transplant, and developed afib due to the chemotherapy. Ironically, the chemo never made me throw up.

My weight went up, all the way to 200 pounds. It turned out that a lot of that was fluid retention, which my cardiologist worried a lot about. He put me on a diuretic and I went down to about 175. I managed to get rid of another 10 pounds, but now my weight is creeping back up, closer to 170 than 160.

I know that I need to focus on improving my fitness and not just obsess about my weight. Fortunately I like healthy food, unfortunately I LOVE bread. I love to cook, too.

I am looking forward to getting some good advice.

Advice on curbing my appetite
Mindful eating. The French eat rich foods,but not a lot of food. This sounds so simplistic, but it is helping me. Don't eat in front of the tv, where most of your attention is on it. Think about your food. How does it look? What aroma does it have? Is the temperature cool or warm? Is the texture crisp or firm or soft and silky? Put your fork down between bites, do everything you can to eat more slowly.
