Trying something just a wee bit different: Several months ago, I went to a nutritionist for diet advice since I was borderline Type 2 diabetic. She gave me an exchange diet based on 1200 calories a day. It was great! -- included the two things I crave most (nuts and wine), BUT I didn't lose any weight. Why? Because we go out every Friday (today!!) and I do a mini-binge: not over the top but I do indulge a bit. Well, I apparently have NO wiggle-room whatsoever -- short, female, old -- even though I work out hard almost every day. So. . .I dropped the daily wine and sure enough the weight started to come off. Then. . .dinner with friends. . .wine appears. . .special Halloween meal buffet in the (retirement center) dining room. . .etc. So, a couple of days ago I did something I have never, ever done before: I emptied half a bottle of wine down the drain! Wow. And I was OK! Get it out of sight. Get it out of the house if possible. But, today is Friday and we're going to our favorite BBQ place. Breakfast just now was two brown rice cakes and 1 oz. of Vermont Smoked Cheddar cheese. Lunch will be roasted veggies (brussels sprouts and cauliflower) with hummus. Dinner will be whatever I want, but no sugar, which luckily does not call to me. I may or may not continue to track; I would so very much like not to have to track.

This is almost "Day One". . . .again. I finished up an intense, quite stressful week, and of course turned to wine to relax. OK, it worked. Also, I had bid on -- and won -- a gift basket from Trader Joe's at our recent gala. What I had SEEN was a great Indian dinner mix, horseradish aioli, creamy tomato soup, and a tomato sauce for pasta. What was at the bottom was chocolate!! I'm happy to report that the chocolate is no more. I haven't even been tracking these past few days, but one moves on. Today is the day.

I'm actually enjoying the weekly-calorie plan. I feel that I can indulge on Fridays and, lo and behold, I don't even feel like going wacko, so far. We're low on food. Husband does the food shopping, but he is having some cognitive issues and I don't want to push it. We do have a few eggs -- my go-to standby. No tofu. Some cans of sardines. Time to be creative!

Learning, learning. Weight bump is exactly what I was expecting and not upset by. Friday is "binge" day. Actually, my binge was not so enormous. I had shrimp with pasta for dinner plus a small piece of cheese cake and a dark chocolate "tube" from Trader Joe's (having won a Trader Joe's gift basket at the Gala). Back on plan today. Husband and I are taking a fall foliage riverboat tour this afternoon. They're providing donuts and cider -- won't have any. We'll bring a good lunch -- probably hard-boiled eggs, cucumber, rice crackers or rice cakes -- at least for me. Husband may bring sliced turkey on gluten-free bread. And of course I'll bring a nice insulated mug of half decaf/half regular coffee.
On to the gym now to pump some iron. Oh, how I dislike it compared to Zumba, Tai Chi, and water aerobics, but I do like the benefits!!
