What a terrible week. First, my husband's birthday, for which family brought lemon meringue pie AND key lime pie, two of my all-time favorites. Then the Memorial Day cookout. Then stress and fatigue from just plain overdoing things. Then a "what-the-hell" feeling all week, plus a wine-and-cheese-and-olives-and-those-darling-mozzarella-balls get-together, plus a great bottle of wine for participating in a panel discussion, and just not having the energy to resist. Interestingly, I eat so well, PROVIDED those tempting treats are not put right under my nose! I don't bring them into the apartment, but when I encounter them elsewhere, well. . . .you know.
Today is (yet) another day, as each day is. So, here we go, back on track. Again.
(Will weigh in tomorrow)

Easter Lunch Buffet at the retirement center: roast lamb (had it), ham (no), seafood in cream sauce with puff pastry (no), carrots and parsnips (yes), roasted potatoes (yes), lemon cheesecake (1 teaspoon, from husband's serving), chocolate mousse cake (no). But. . . . .one of the guests brought an oversize bottle of. . . . .sangria! Did I have some? Of course. Did I have a refill? Of course. But then. . .and I'm really proud of myself. . . .when I got back to the apartment with the remainder of the bottle (there were five drinkers), I poured the rest of it down the sink. Yep. I really did it. I suppose I could claim that I was being "careful" or "responsible," but the real reason: I don't like sangria very much -- too sweet. I just couldn't see keeping it around as "wine," when it's actually punch. So, no gold stars -- maybe bronze?

So interesting. . .if the wine is there I pretty much MUST have it. If it's not there, I kind of don't miss it. On wineless days, I'm having that Lindt dark chocolate truffle, and it's mighty, mighty good. Just one and I'm OK. We have a vast Easter buffet coming up here at our retirement center, and guests are coming. It's going to be a challenge, since they go all out on these events. My goal is to focus on the roast lamb, which I love, one carb, and tons of vegetables. No dessert. Coffee with a dab of cream. (I never have cream so that will be a treat.
