My Bio...were do I start??

I'm 39 years old, have a wonderful husband and 2 beautiful children (girl age 13 & boy age 12). My life thus far has been fantastic except for one thing...my weight!

I've been fighting this weight battle for as long as I can remember. It consumes me day & night - I think about how horrible I feel when I go to bed at night with promises of starting "fresh" tomorrow, and I think about it in the morning with new eyes. By afternoon, I've usually given into temptation and then the process repeats. Because of my obsessing, I've yo-yo dieted most of my adult life.

1 month ago I went to my Dr. for a physical (after 2 years). She was shocked to see I had gained over 20 lbs in that time frame and she gave me some much needed advice. If I don't stop what I'm doing, I may not live to see my grandchildren one day. She recommended a government approved diet (covered by my provincial health insurance) and I've been on this for just over 2 weeks and am happy to say, I've lost 7 lbs and feel great! I think my mind is made up that THIS year and before my 40th birthday in June 2011, I will be at a weight that makes me happy!

Still on a plateau
Hi Mouse Smile
Don't be too hard on your friend - if she is struggling with her weight, it's hard for her to accept that you're doing something about getting healthy and she isn't. She may feel like she's loosing an "eating" buddy and therefore, she is subconsiously sabotaging you...she may not realize she's doing it. In the meantime, you just stick to your guns and say no to her offers - and maybe find some encouraging friends/family to hang out with a little bit more!!
Good luck! Unfortunately, we all have friends like this!
Cheers!

Sodium intake
Thanks for all the great advice! My "diet" Dr. weighs me in every 2 weeks and the scale also tells my sodium intake - I should have lost a lot of water weight by now but for some reason, my body is holding on to that and shedding the fat instead. (not that that's a bad thing, lol). I don't eat a lot of processed foods - but do like my deli meats so i think i'll have to say goodbye to that! Also, aim for more water drinking and see if that helps!
Thanks again! Cheers!

Sodium intake
I know I need to lower my sodium intake and I try my best to buy "low sodium" everything but my Dr. still accuses me of eating too much of it. Is there something else I can do to help lower it? Like, can I drink more water to flush it out, or is there a vitamin I can take? Any advice is helpful Very Happy
Thanks a bunch!

Doing everything right.. but i feel like i am gaining weight .,. is this normal??
It is very normal to feel that way - you're probably eating things you always thought you shouldn't be eating - just make sure you're getting enough veggies in your diet (not all meat) and drink lots of water. It takes 4 days for your body to begin the fat burning phase (Ketosis). I've done Atkins in the past with great success - don't give up! But remember, it's a lifestyle change, not a quick fix.
