Well, I'm back to a diet and exercise routine finally. In addition to a couple of kidney related surgeries, I was diagnosed with very aggressive lymphoma in December and my health declined precipitously very rapidly. After a few weeks in the hospital, I started chemotherapy and was able to return home. The lack of exercise and the steroids that I've been taking with the chemo (particularly Prednisone) have ballooned my weight up and atrophied my muscles. However, I had a PET Scan a couple of weeks ago and it came back clear. So, hopefully, just one more 6 hour chemo session and I might be done. Anyway, I peaked at 237 pounds a week ago. So now, I'm back to watching my diet and beginning to exercise. It'll take a while to build up the muscles again, and it's likely to be 6 months to a year before my Red Blood Cells recover sufficiently to provide a good amount of oxygen, but I'm working at it. I've been walking the dog, about a mile per day and have done a couple of 3 - 5 mile bike rides. We're going on a camping trip to ride 17 miles of the Virginia Creeper Trail this weekend. Also, built a new chicken coop and a large covered, fenced yard around it over the last few weeks. So, the activity level is improving. The toughest part of this, is the limit on protein that my Nephrologist wants. When I just eat mostly protein, the weight falls off, but having to limit protein, and eat more carbs makes it more challenging. However, I'll get there.

Well, I'm finally going to write about this. In November, my bloodwork for my Nephrologist showed that my kidney function had dramatically deteriorated after months of constant improvement. They thought it was Kidney Stones. An ultrasound showed that my kidneys were somewhat enlarged. A CT Scan showed that there were no kidney stones, however it did show "innumerable nodules throughout my chest, abdomen, and pelvis" indicative of metastasized cancer. A PET Scan, bone biopsy and biopsy of a nodule just before Christmas showed that it was very aggressive lymphoma. I began Chemo on January 27th. I get a new 6 hour infusion of chemo every 21 days (just finished my 2nd last week). I'm pretty optimistic right now. The pain has all but gone and the subcutaneous nodules that were visible have disappeared. Hopefully a few more infusions will knock this out for good. Also on the bright side, my Chronic Kidney Disease is back down to Stage 3 from Stage 5. On the weight side, I'm still in maintenance mode. However, I take Prednisone for 5 days after each infusion so my weight is varying from 185 to 205 depending on whether I'm on the Prednisone or not. I'm not sweating the weight fluctuation, though. Due to the Chemo, my Red Blood Cells are at less than 1/2 the normal minimum which means that exercise is out of the question. Maybe by late summer, I can get back to some semblance of normal life. I hope everyone has a great week.
