As I was telling my diet buddy, I beat both my personal best mile- and two-mile- times today (ran a 7:09 and 16:43, respectively). That felt really great- I think I had higher energy because I ran at night after there was food in my system; usually I go at 6 in the morning before eating or drinking anything. But I prefer going in the morning because it's just more routine, and sets the mood for the day.

I had an entire Snicker's bar today. It was tempting to just eat around 1,000 calories, but I think it's important to keep caloric intake at a healthy and steady level. The first time I tried aggressive dieting, I would eat around 500-600 per day... I was cold, crampy and miserable all the time, and of course, it didn't last and was bad for my health. I felt really weak.

This is going well. I'll weigh myself again tomorrow morning.

It was a surprise to see the number on the scale go down. It wasn't exactly a tame weekend. I think being dehydrated might have been part of it. Anyway, I guess just keeping track of all the food helps. Thinking back now to what I would eat when I wasn't watching my weight, it could easily have been 2500+ calories per day... just one meal at Chipotle could be half of that. In addition, having another cookie or another chocolate just because you feel like it, cooking with a huge dollop of butter or oil... it's a wonder I didn't actually gain more weight.

I'm trying to be extra cautious these days, since I went off track for a bit. I need to know that I can enjoy good food occasionally without it screwing up my entire plan. Weighing myself this morning was encouraging. The most important thing is not to slip- to have controlled calorie deficits, and then to have controlled calorie surpluses. Everything that I eat or don't eat is because I want to, not because I can't help it.
