I am losing sooo slowly. This past week was a weird one for me. I went off of Atkins a bit, because my best friend and her boyfriend were visiting from KY. I haven't seen her in two years, and she had a stroke last year -- she's a month younger than me, we're 43. Far too young for a stroke, and seeing the impact this has had on her was distressing. We only spent two days together, and then we drove her back to her brother's in NJ.

I had some carbs while she was here -- we went for pizza, after a day in spent Coney Island (I ate no crap in Coney, though). I also had some more carbs later that evening -- a few crappy fries w/cheese & a few mozzerella sticks (local fast food joint -- Roll-N-Roaster), also ordered a roast beef sandwich, but just ate half the meat, no bun. (Half the bun went home w/ me though). There were also a few spring rolls at the Vietnamese restaurant where we dined, her first night here.

I must admit that the night we drove my pal back to her bro's, I was upset and gave in to emotional eating. I allowed myself carbs as a coping mechanism, which was stupid, but probably the first time I've done so since starting this diet four months ago. I had some sesame chicken & steamed pork dumplings, then the leftovers the following day. The day I had the leftovers, I also hit the gym, and did 45 minutes on the treadmill at the beginning of my workout. Did some strength training and then decided I was done when my legs were positively wobbly.

I even walked home from the gym, which is a touch over a half mile. So, I'm trying to balance the good with the bad. Actually, that's a re-write of WHY I went to the gym -- I went for the endorphins rush because I was still depressed about missing my pal.

Even before last week's journey into CARBS, my weight was up. (Did I mention I got my period at the gym? I have such a unusual cycle, so THAT lasted about a day, although the rest of the menstrual symptoms, like migraines, hung around far longer).

I seem to be losing at a rate of 3 pounds per month. This is driving me crazy, but I'm in it for the long haul, as I'm now at the lowest weight I've been in almost 5 years. I'm in a 14 petite!! I just need to get back into my 10's.

I don't want to ever be over 200 pounds again. It was very upsetting when I hit 221 in 2012, and it's so interesting the way my perspective and feelings on my own weight have changed. There was a time when I would have been very comfortable to be between 200-220. My highest weight ever was 297, in 2002 ... and then I had gastric bypass in January 2003, when I weighed 284. That's super morbidly obese -- or as I liked to joke "Super Deathly Fat", and I used to say that since I was super something, I deserved a cape! LOL
For further context, I'm under 5 feet tall.

My stream of consciousness babbling has come to an end.

Well, it's going slowly, but it's going. I'm about 18.4 pounds down, since starting the diet 12.5 weeks ago. Three weeks into Atkins Induction, I went off the diet for 4 days -- so I could enjoy a trip to wineries out on the North Fork, and so I could actually EAT at two Passover Seders. Then I went back on the diet.
I've had a few designated 'cheat' days for special occasions -- Mother's Day, Father's Day, and pizza with old friends (one was visiting NYC from Pittsburg, and we made plans to enjoy Brooklyn pizza together). Pizza helped me gain this damned weight, LOL. [insert weary sigh]

I'm currently (finally) at the lowest weight I've been in at least 3 years, and some old clothes are now fitting, most are at least two sizes smaller. I'm working to get back to where I was in mid-2009, which is about 30 pounds lower. I have soo many things in a size 12, and I need to get THERE.

I don't like the way my body feels at this weight, and I am amazed that two years ago I let my weight reach 221. To put that fully in context, there was a time when I would have considered the 220's a good weight range for me. However, I had RNY Gastric Bypass on 1/7/03, and I didn't have my insides surgically rearranged to just go backwards. My highest weight was almost 300 pounds, and I am under 5 feet tall. I never thought I'd be over 200 pounds again, so while I am proud of myself for addressing this weight, I'm pissed that I let myself gain so much. The weight gain seems to have started after my last ortho surgery, when I was on crutches and depressed.
