4/100
OK...the George's shake was a BIG disaster. Chunks at the bottom, couldn't get the oatmeal to grind up. And yes, it is SUPPOSED to be uncooked. Ug. But I'll modify the shake for the future. More protein powder, it has quite a bit of fiber b/c it is hemp based. I thought a shake might work as I really hate eating breakfast, but I think I'm hungry already. Although that could be the detox talking - I've really reduced my sugar intake by cutting out the creamers in the am.

I'm going by the advice of Linda Spangle, and doing a 100 day diet challenge. Each day, I'm tackling an issue. While I have WAY more time to work the weight I need to use, I can address the issues I have with losing weight, and feel like there is an end in sight. I was also tempted to not count the first couple days I've been doing my food plan, as it wasn't "perfect". But "perfect" is one of the issues I have to work on! There is no perfect. Ever. And my need to strive for perfection drives me to food. So no win there.

I didn't go to yoga class last night, and i'm kicking myself. But the main reason was that I hadn't eaten a proper dinner (due to poor planning) and it was a) eat dinner or b) do yoga. I let it go because I had done yoga earlier, and was planning not to go as it was an open class for new students to test it out. But then I noticed that there weren't that many coming, and I wanted it to look full. I was already drained from poor food choices the day before, adn here I was again, feeling limp and tired. I really hate that beginning of a diet thing where ALL you do is plan and eat, plan and eat. I tend to wait until I'm starving, and then shove in my mouth whatever is quick, convenient and plentiful. So I don't do that anymore. I'm now a planner!

So today, I have a plan. Of course, being my day off, it is vastly easier to take the time I need. Now the challenge will be to get ready for the next 3 days, which will tend to be busy. I'm also going to plan my workouts - I've committed to an hour workout on days that I don't work, and a half hour on days that I do.

Here's the basic recipe for George's Shake using plain protein powder, and a couple variations that folks from the community have sent in.

2 cups of milk, soymilk or oat milk
1/2 cup of fruit juice
2 tbs protein powder
2 tbs oatmeal (not instant)
Directions:

Put ingredients in the blender and blend on high for about a minute. If you do it for less time, you will be crunching oats at the bottom of your shake. If you prefer not to use milk in your shake, use water and a little juice. This shake work as a great breakfast choice because it combines nutritious foods with plenty of protein.

This is one of Kathleen's personal recipes.

Well, lesson learned yesterday. Both GF and I bonked after not eating enough during a busy workday. We both have pretty active jobs, so we came home dragging and had no real plan for dinner. We've been getting rid of the old food, so that basically means eating through it. Leftover Chinese Chicken and broccoli, and ravioli with pesto. I looked at the fat count for the pesto, and almost fell over - 26 grams of fat for 2 tablespoons. Ouch! I had less than 1 serving.

So what is that, day 3? I'm not really doing the "diet" thing so far, but I want to. Probably, this half-assed approach isn't really what is going to work for me. But then again, perfectionism is also an issue for me. So I'm going to keep going.

I made a plan for the next few days. We took inventory of what's left, and will work with what we have, filling in veggies and fruits. And I'll be writing in what I eat, so at least I'm accountable.

So new year, new diet. Such a cliche. But I weighed in tonight, and I've only gained 4 pounds since October, when we went to the wedding, blew our diets, and didn't look back until New Years. Not bad, really. I felt like I gained a lot more, frankly. My knees gave out last weekend, like they just couldn't support my body. So that was the wake up call, not necessarily the new years.

I changed it to the Mediterranean diet, just because it is closest to the way we currently eat. We need more veggies and fruits, and reduce portions is the main correction. I already eat primarily whole grains when I do carbs. Oh yeah, and the sugar has to go, as well as the creamer in my coffee. I'd bed I'd lose about 400 calories a day in my diet if I just got rid of the sugary creamer.

Another main "fix" would be to eat on a regular basis throughout the day, instead of waiting to long and binging at dinner.

And of course, exercise. I just find any excuse I can not to do it, but feel so good when I do. Why can't I remember that???
