I am having a real hard time getting motivated to lose weight! My health is dependent upon me losing between 75 to 125 pounds. I have been a Type2 Diabetic since 1988 and now an add on disease called Neuropathy set in about 4 years ago. Funny about this Neuropathy slow and steady it creeps up on you and until it finally arrives full blown you have treated your feet and hands for every problem you could imagine and Doctor's are reluctant to make the proper diagnosis as well until it is too late. I am in the stage right now I need to stop this disease in its tracks and one would think that would be motivation enough to get me up and going on a lifestyle change. Sadly it is not! I came to Fat Secret hoping to find others needing to lose a large amount of weight but most of you seem to be struggling to lose 10 to 30 pounds and are healthy enough that with just tweaking your diet and adding a little exercise will usually get you to or at least close to you goal weight in <6 months. One of my issues is that I love to eat and I am a great cook. I have been morbidly obese since I was 12 years old and I am about to become 62 on my next Birthday. That is exactly 50 years I have been struggling to get to a healthy weight! There is not a diet out there I have not tried including the current back to nature Paleo diet everyone seems to want to be on! Some of my better success were at age 19 a loss of 75 pounds via Weight Watcher, at age 25 a loss of 130 pounds via the Liquid protein Diet, at 35 a loss of 80 pounds via Doctor Adkins and at 45 a loss of 161 pounds by just eating a healthy diet and walking 5 miles a day and working out 4 to 6 times a week. I will admit the last lifestyle change resulted in a Triple Bi-pass at age 48 and even after all that I continued on this path of self destruction I shall call it for lack of a better frame of mind today. My wife of 40 years passed away 2 years ago this month and I find missing her leads to a lot of over eating and lack of concern for getting this weight off. My biggest problem now is that my bad habits have spilled over to both my Daughter and Grand Daughters lives as they moved in with me when my wife passed and of course we got fat as a family. This is why I have to find a way to get the motivation required to not only save my life so I may enjoy a couple of years of retirement but I cannot sit by and let my girls life mirror all the crap I have been through as losing any amount of weight is a herculean task on a good day. I believe losing weight is like quitting smoking "Never quit quitting" and eventually you might just make it. I am going to try and report my daily journal on Fat Secret but I need to find an online site that has others like me needing to shed 100+ pounds as I do believe not only are 100+ overweight people in need of a different type of diet we are also in need of almost daily support. I would join a Gym again but unless I can get this Neuropathy stopped in it's tracks I cannot walk even half a block nor am I able to perform any type of weight training under Doctor's orders! Wish me luck on stay the course and from time to time if you have a kind word post it on the site as it may be just the ticket to get me through the next hour, day or week you never know! Sorry about the long read but I am in just that kind of mood today...
