Yeah, I thought it was crazy too - turns out there's actually a syndrome -post cholecystectomy syndrome - ugh.

I had mine out at the end of August, then the night of December 17th I had another attack. Went to the ER, after an inconclusive ultrasound and blood tests they said it was heartburn and prescribed prilosec. I went home knowing they were wrong, suffered the whole next day, went back in the second morning. They found then that yes, my liver was way out of line (normal range is something like 10-35, mine was 435) and they did another ultrasound and found that there were 2 stones stuck in my common bile duct. Same exact pain, same cause, just no gall bladder hiding the stones. Apparently they were just floating around in my bile duct waiting to wreak havoc! The surgeon had to go in (orally thankfully) a make the bile duct larger permanently after removing the two stones because the ability of the stones to form isn't restricted to inside the gall bladder. Thankfully I got to go home after all that on the 23rd. So yeah, it can be the same kind of pain even after the surgery. I got "lucky" in that the attack was so severe to last long enough for my liver enzymes to freak out so they would believe me since my first visit to the ER was too soon after the onset it didn't register.

Ugh! I've also had my gallbladder removed, about 3 years ago, after 3 months of weight watchers and low fat and weight loss. Yes, I've had twinges since then, minor thank goodness! Those full blown attacks were not fun!. Tsmamma, hope your pain goes away and doesn't come back!!!!

Ugh - went to get my foot checked this morning, and asked the Dr. about the "attack" - he said pretty much the same thing - it can happen, stones can still become lodged in the bile duct, and that if it happens again, they'll have to start checking in on things. For right now, he's hoping it was just a random thing. I DID have a dinner of pork rinds that night...don't think I'll do that again - lol.
