My OB/Gyn says I might as well just keep shooting for a 1600 calorie diet even through pregnancy because I don't really need to gain much weight. It's gonna be hard because I feel like I'm yo-yo'ing since my first visit they told me that pregnancy was not the time to diet and I should just eat normally. Since then I've gained several pounds and I think it's because I went from a calorie restriction to no restriction and it made my weight jump quickly. So now I'm gonna try to be a little more moderate about things so I don't end up gaining a bunch of weight. That doesn't mean my craving for yoohoo is gonna go away lol.
318.0 lb Lost so far: 14.0 lb.    Still to go: 156.0 lb.    Diet followed poorly.
gaining 3.3 lb a week

Sonya, You and I started at Fat Secret at about the same time and about the same weight. I've been following your progress on and off since I started and I was very impressed! I switched over to the weight watchers site when I started on that in October, so I missed your exciting announcement, but though I am still on weight watchers, I prefer this site, so I'm back. First, I want to tell you CONGRATULATIONS on your pregnancy!!! That is so exciting! While it's true you should not restrict calories right now, you definitely can be active! As long as you don't over do the activity (let your body tell you when you've had enough, but try to get in at least half an hour a day), make sure to eat every calorie of your 1600 calories a day and make sure you eat a good, healthy diet! You could probably even safely lose weight as long as you don't exceed about about a pound a week. Your OB will never tell you this because of liability, but it is true. At the very least, make sure you don't gain too much. Don't make the same mistake I did when I was pregnant. I stopped any and all activity and ate whatever and as much as I wanted to eat, hungry or not, justifying it because I was pregnant. Through my two pregnancies, I packed on over 120 pounds and I started out overweight. Here I am 36 now and just now taking off my "pregnancy weight," 6 years after my last baby was born. Also, if you are physically fit when it comes time to deliver, it will decrease your chances for all sorts of complications. Also, consider breastfeeding if you can. Breastfeeding is mother's diet miracle! In the first year after birth if you exclusively breast feed for most of it, exercise half an hour a day and maintain your 1600/day calories, you will see the weight melt off, plus you will provide baby with the best nutrition available to him or her! Congrats again! I'm so excited for you!
