This wasn't as much a failure of discipline; I allowed myself to enjoy the stuff o' the season. Rather than forty-to-fifty training miles on the road/treadmill I slept an extra hour and walked the dog before going off to work (plus a day with no running because of achy legs). HOWEVER...the respite ended Saturday evening, with an eight-miler yesterday and a return to business as usual today (five miles easy in the morning, five miles with speed work in the afternoon).
