6 lbs. Typical drop for a first week diet for me. Three attempts at Atkins is my only comparison. Difference is I don't feel deprived at all. Had a chili dog yesterday. How awesome is that? See you next week.

That's great; I did about the same on the first week. It is similar to Atkins in the first week drop. And from the looks of it, the second week is going to be "meh" - also similar to Atkins (in my personal experience). But there's 4 days left... I'll be watching your 5:2 progress as I'm doing the every other day (for now). Once 2 weeks are complete I'm going to increase calories on the down day.

I read a post on Dr. Varady's FB page written by the woman who lost 120 lbs and appeared on national TV news. She said at one point (sometime after 6 months of doing this) she lost absolutely nothing for 3 months, but her body shape was changing. She kept on mostly because she was afraid to quit. Then suddenly over a 2 week period she dropped 15 lbs! I'm tucking that info away for motivation, in case it happens to me.

I like that plan. I also have plans to mix it up at some point. If I can settle in to this pattern and still feel ok, I'll consider the Every Other Day. Not before June 1 though. I like the forgiving nature of this. If I waver, it's just a few hours to a clean slate. Have a great week trackin64.

You too! I have ordered Dr. Johnson's book but suspect I won't be thrilled with it as he subscribes to low fat high carbs (which doesn't make sense if you're Atkins-inclined). Dr. Varady was the one who did - and continues to do - the research on this WOE. She suggests protein and fat for the low calorie days. Found a great interview of her on Dr. Mercola's site. One thing I find intriguing is that her studies show the weight loss from this is 10% muscle 90% fat. Most other diets it's 25% muscle 75% fat.
