Good morning and happy Friday! Having survived Thanksgiving I feel ready to tackle Christmas. We've got the tree, the lights, and the incredibly excited pets who don't know what to make of the tree that glows at night. :) I'm fresh off back-to-back 5K runs with my dog so I'm also a little high energy these days.

On that note, I wrote a while back that I was running a 10K and 5K on Thanksgiving day (15K total). Well, I ran the 10K (57:31 time) but I skipped on the 5K. There were about 10,000 people who ran the 10K and they were way more aggressive than I'd have expected on a charity run. I was literally part of a runners mob at the starting line and for the first mile we were elbow to elbow and there was a great deal of jostling between runners. After that experience, and knowing that there were more people signed up for the 5K, I opted out of the second run. Maybe next year. :) I'm convinced, though, that I could have shaved about 5 to 8 minutes off of that time if I hadn't been stuck in the pack out of the gate. Oh, and the first place runner did the 10K in 29.4 minutes.

My wife has commented to me that her office is inundated with holiday treats. I've seen a similar trend here with the seasonal butter cookies (150 calories in 4 of the quarter-sized cookies) and what not. My first response is to just skip whatever is on offer, but that doesn't seem particularly social. So, in the event that I absolutely cannot just skip the food I have just one. While that does add a few calories to my day, it doesn't push me over the line from healthy to unhealthy.

So, that works for me. Hopefully it helps someone debating what they want to do.

LOL at the dogs and the Christmas lights!!! You sound like you are in a very good place!! KUDOS on the 10K!!! I'm trying to avoid the mindless snacking of the goodies in my office so I can really dig into my favorites at home!! Oh that reminds me ... I need to buy ingredients to make my Datenut Bread!!! YUM!!!

Can you really just have one? Lucky. Great job on the 10k, sorry about the 5k, the crowds and the gate issue but you got through it! I will run one someday. That can be my goal next year! Thanks, have a wonderful holiday season
