Katsolo's Journal, 11 March 2024

Long walk, good day yesterday, busy Monday. we did take a quick adventure to the car wash and beach loop with a side trip to a place I haven’t been since I was a little kid with my grandfather. It looks the same. It’s the South Bay Salt Works and it’s been there since WWI in some form as I understand it. There is a big trail network down there that I wanted to check out, but I think it’s too remote to be safe without a group of people. We tried though. Might do the Coronado side with the dogs next weekend, but i need to look up the rules.

Was up on the roof last night trying to see the ISS and a rocket launch. Fail to spot either of them due to clouds, but it was fun texting with friends about the whole thing while we were all scanning the sky.

whats your secret to walking more then 1 dog? my dogs love to entangle each other or try to go in 2 different directions..

With easy dogs, it’s one on each side until they understand commands. With unruly ones, get a two dog leash splitter and put the unruly dog on the outside. Walking is “work” until we get to particular places where they get the “free dog” command and can have the whole 6’ off leash to explore. My dogs walk in heel until we get to the park. It’s safer for everyone and they have a mission getting there with the reward being allowed to sniff and whatnot. Shepherds need a job, your bloodhound is probably similar, but with scent. Beagles gonna beagle. I would guess scent might work, but don’t know them well enough other than being able to break out of anywhere to chase after things. 🤪 You should watch some scent training videos and incorporate that aspect into short walks. Good luck.

Kat that info was helpful for me. Ive never had a problem training a dog to walk on a leash nor my two dogs but my daughter’s heeler/aussie year old dog is a nightmare to walk. I will watch some videos on this also.btw i so love the pics of your dogs they always put a smile on my face. Since trying to find a home for M.I.L.s little kitties i signed up for our local facebook and some other rescues and there are so many gsd’s (which my iPad tried to correct to gods which is fitting and funny) and huskies that are getting dumped, abandoned or loose. Makes my heart hurt.

Heres something funny idk if either of you ever experienced this: ever since we got the 2nd pup, our beagle buries her food under anything she can find, mostly towels and clothes.

As a former GSD mom, I love and appreciate all you share. But what I really live are your pictures and SD references. My parents moved there in 1979; so many memories I feel in your photos. 🧡

YOH, Heelers are hard to leash train because they are herders and extremely stubborn! They are naturally bred to lead and don’t like to be restrained. Ours took a bit but patience was certainly a virtue! Joe did a great job with Sydney.

Diana how did he do it? I have had, o let me think 9 dogs in my life and all were perfect on the leash. Her adorable little guy…hold on im going to try and post a pic of him.

Happy dogs! I have seen the ISS a few times, it always amazes me how fast it travels.

I asked Joe and he said something similar to Kat. He would take a few steps and if Sydney pulled or whatever he turned her around and took a few steps and so on. He brought treats for when she did follow commands. She is very good motivated. I taught her how to sit, lie down, and half roll.(,😂) She is smart and learned those quickly. It amazes me that at 6 years old she was still untrained.

ISS passing over my head in about 90 minutes. No clouds, should be a great view! It amazes me every time 🚀
