Being a guy and at your current weight, you can eat a lot more than that and still lose. Don't know why your doctor would recommend caloric intake that low (unless specific health reasons) because women shouldn't go below 1200 because they can't get the nutrients their body needs. A diet needs to be sustainable and 1000 a day for the long haul is tough. If there is no reason (medically) for starting that low, I would raise it to 1500-1800 a day and see what happens. You can lower it as you go if you need to. Always better to start high and lower as you go.
