Under by a hair but another goal achieved. 220lb was my weight in my early 50s. Does this mean I'm rolling back the clock? Next goal - 210. No significance to the number other than it is a midpoint to the next major milestone of 200.

Decided to finally quit smoking (for the umpteenth time). It is a stinky, ugly, expensive habit. Today is day 2. Wicked cravings at the moment. I have patches and lozenges courtesy of an Ontario quit program, but don't want to use them quite yet. Would rather be off nicotine sooner rather than later, but if need be I will use the product. Maybe the replacement behaviour needs to be to drink more water as I don't hydrate enough. Hmmm sounds like a plan.

On the exciting news front, my bariatric clinic recommended a food addiction counsellor Sandra Elia a few months back. Most of her programs are a bit pricey for me, but a new one comes within budget. Startng Sept 25th, a 90 day online group program "Why Love Matters in Weight Loss". The hope for me is that once and for all I can repair the mental aspect of why I turn to food for comfort/joy/solace/reward. My relationship with food resembles that of an alcoholic to alcohol. Has since childhood. I would like to fully internalise that food is nothing more than fuel. Important for survival? Yes. For use as a tool to meet emotional needs? Nah.
219.8 lb Lost so far: 44.2 lb.    Still to go: 79.8 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

Congrats on your accomplishments. Took me 4 times before I finally quit smoking so don’t stress about how many times you’ve tried. My son has the same relationship with food that you have described. He also lives in Ontario. Are her services by referral only? It took almost a year to hear back from one his Dr recommended for just the assessment, and now he will have to wait months again for the actual zoom meeting. He feels he will benefit more with a one on one session rather than a group one.

I would check out her website to see what is on offer. sandraelia.com The bariatric clinic recommended her but her services are not part of a referral process. A pay your own way situation which is why I took the 90 day group option (with discount comes out to $1/day.) On the upside, your son has the upcoming zoom meeting which is likely OHIP covered - he might want to consider being put on a cancellation list as well as that might get him in a bit sooner? A lot of the delays with various docs have been a byproduct of lockdown/covid. I'm finding now that things are chugging along a bit more expeditiously than during the pandemic. Fingers crossed for your son. Thanks for the support with the quit smoking thing....hanging by my fingernails at the moment.
