Day 87 of the war. The shock has abated by now, and things are just numb. All food tastes the same. No matter how much or little I have, doesn't feel any different. I eat and eat and taste nothing. Which is probably for the better since the prices are climbing and climbing. So is the deathtoll. My Ukrainian friends are excellent cooks. I wish I could taste their cooking again some time but it's obvious now that it's not going to be part of my diet any time soon. Russia has lorded over Ukraine for so long and now that Ukraine wants to break free, the Russian regime won't stand for it. It would rather see its own people get squashed by the sanctions, it would rather see its own culture cancelled all over the world than let Ukraine be free. But I believe Ukraine is already free.
